The Athletics Department at Georgia State University is seeking to hire an Academic Advisor I. The Academic Advisor I will assist academic departments/units with verbal or written academic plans, advisement interpretation, and implementation of University policies and procedures in the areas of student enrollment and evaluation.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:
This position provides information and advises both enrolled and prospective students regarding the academic programs offered by the university or a specific department, including requirements for admission and retention through graduation. The Academic Advisor I should have thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Advisors at this level will use Banner but more importantly they understand how databases work then to have practical experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Advisement:
- Advise prospective and current students about academic requirements and selection of courses.
- Disseminates information on university policies and procedures to faculty, parents, students, etc.
- Monitors class academic progression and assign necessary tutoring.
- Maintains students' files updated throughout their academic careers and make changes to records as necessary.
- Coordinates communications to students regarding course scheduling, core and major requirements, academic resources, etc.
- Refers students with academic discrepancies to proper officials for further action.
- Evaluates and determines transfer credits; researches course descriptions to determine transferability.
- Audits student records for curriculum, major, and graduation requirements.
New Student-Athlete Orientation:
- Conduct orientation sessions for groups of incoming students.
- Serve as liaison to University orientation activities.
Continuing Eligibility:
- Monitor NCAA continuing eligibility throughout the year as it relates to assigned teams.
- Monitor and tracks the retention, progression and graduation of all students within assigned population.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Sr. Associate AD-Student Athlete Development
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and one year of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
