Salary: $62,819-$96,479 (based on education and experience)
- Plus an additional 10% Allied Health Salary Adjustment to be added
- Plus an additional $10K Department Head Responsibilities Adjustment to be added

About the Division

The Pharmacy Technology Certificate Program is a 27-credit, 32-week program that prepares students for entry-level pharmacy technician positions in both retail and hospital settings. This is a cohort-based program that combines classroom instruction, in-person and online lab-based training and clinical experiences to ensure students are ready to meet the demands of a modern pharmacy environment.
The program is located in our state-of-the art Center of Excellence in Health Professions, offered at Pima's West Campus.

About the Position

The position is available beginning the 2025-26 academic year as an ongoing twelve-month contract. Faculty teach and work a set schedule over a twelve-month academic year that could include day, evening, and weekend duties as well as on campus, online, and regional site visits and events.

As the Academic Faculty Director of Pharmacy Technology, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the program's future and ensuring its continued success. This full-time position combines instruction, program leadership, and program administrative responsibilities. Please note that the Academic Faculty Director model is subject to review and may change in two years.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities for Academic Faculty Directors and Lead Faculty:

  • Academic Leadership: Provide visionary leadership to the Pharmacy Technology program, ensuring alignment with Pima's mission, values, and strategic goals.
  • Curriculum Development: Oversee curriculum design and updates, integrating industry trends, sustainability, and new technologies.
  • Faculty Supervision: Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty, fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and innovative teaching environment.
  • Student Success: Promote student engagement, retention, and achievement by supporting inclusive, learner-centered instructional practices.
  • Industry Partnerships: Build and maintain strong relationships with local and national pharmacy employers to support externships and graduate employment.
  • Budget & Resource Management: Manage the program budget and resources, including oversight of lab equipment, supplies, and software.
  • Program Promotion: Serve as the face of the program-engaging with prospective students, community members, and industry stakeholders to increase visibility and enrollment.
  • Assessment & Accreditation: Lead program assessment and ensure compliance with accreditation standards, state board guidelines, and certification requirements.
  • Scheduling: Develop and maintain course schedules that align with student and faculty needs

Faculty Responsibilities: As the Academic Faculty Director, you will also have instructional responsibilities that include:

  • Student-Centered Teaching: Create an inclusive, engaging learning environment that values all learners, collaboration, and real-world relevance.
  • Instruction: Teach pharmacy technician courses in-person and online
  • Hands-on Skills Training: Deliver lab-based instruction
  • Internship Support: Supervise and coordinate retail and hospital placements; communicate with site supervisors to track student progress and outcomes.
  • Professional Development: Stay current on pharmacy practice changes and teaching strategies to ensure instructional quality and relevance.

Job Requirements/Qualifications

Minimum qualifications required for faculty positions are governed by our Faculty Qualification Standards. This position is in an Occupational/Workforce discipline and requires the following to obtain Pima Community College teaching certification:

Licensed pharmacist with a minimum of three (3) years of pharmacy experience.

or

An actively nationally certified pharmacy technician who has graduated from an ASHP/ACPE-accredited pharmacy technician training program AND has at least three (3) years of pharmacy experience.

or

Has a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a practicing pharmacy technician.

Fields of study (disciplines/subfields) are: health science; physical care services; pharmacy technology; pharmaceutical sciences; pharmacology and toxicology; other closely related fields.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading a health professions program
  • Experience teaching in higher education
  • Experience with innovative teaching methodologies
  • Experience teaching online courses and/or alternative instructional formats
  • Experience using a Learning Management System, preferably D2L Brightspace

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Provide instruction to learners with varying educational levels, abilities, and backgrounds and is able to appropriately adapt and deliver material to multiple experience levels
  • Ability to teach the Pharmacy Technology curriculum
  • Knowledge of appropriate and effective use of assessment information to improve instruction
  • Evaluation of students' educational progress: ability to maintain high instruction and learning standards and assess students' academic progress in meeting course objectives and student learning outcomes
  • Teaching in multiple modalities such as online, web-enhanced, and D2L courses: knowledge of curriculum development, course design, and delivery
  • Knowledge of the resources available to students to assist them with academic and personal challenges, and ability to help students access those resources, skilled in providing academic advising
  • Knowledge and appreciation for the Community College mission

Degrees and courses qualifying for Pima Community College teaching certification must be from a regionally accredited college or university. Applicants currently in progress for a degree or additional coursework to meet the minimum qualifications must have the degree conferred and/or coursework completed by May 2026.
