Academic Program Specialist (HEOa) - Black Studies
POSITION DETAILS
This Academic Program Specialist reports to the Chair of Black Studies and supports the daily academic and administrative operations of the Department. In addition to the core responsibilities, the position will participate in the coordination of special Black Studies programs, conferences and events. The role occasionally requires flexible hours due to support programmatic and event management related activities, including the Langston Hughes Festival, and Black History Month programming.
- Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services
- Serves as resource expert regarding Departmental policies and procedures
- Oversees office recordkeeping
- Manages updates of departmental web and print materials
- May assist with supervision of office operations and/or Department budget
- Manage and monitor Black Studies correspondence and calendars
- Supports, plans, and helps to implement Departmental Programming and Fundraising Initiatives
- Provide administrative support for Departmental faculty
- Performs related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a higher education or academic department environment
- Experience supporting academic programs, student services, or faculty administration
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
- Experience coordinating events, programs, or departmental initiatives
- Familiarity with database systems, web content management, or administrative reporting

Participates in the daily coordination of academic and administrative activities of a College's specialized academic program under management direction.
- Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor/student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.
- Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings
- Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management
- Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services
- Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary Range: $57,252 - $68,364. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
