Integrated Business and Engineering Program Officer

Michigan Ross and Michigan Engineering, both ranked in the top five for undergraduates by U.S. News & World Report, first began offering a dual degree in 2004. The vision for the new Integrated Business and Engineering at Michigan (IBEM) dual-degree program is to create a cohesive experience for students, which will deepen their learning and prepare graduates for leadership roles in various industries. We are seeking a Program Officer to provide strategic leadership that ensures integration of activities, student success, and operational excellence. The position will have a dual reporting structure to Ross and Engineering.

Following several years of planning and pilot programs, the first official cohort of dual-degree undergraduate students from Michigan Engineering and the Ross School of Business will begin in the Fall of 2026. Designed to be completed in four years, the dual degree offers integrated coursework in business and engineering, including action-based learning opportunities and co-curricular activities that enhance the student experience. Students who graduate from the program receive a Bachelor of Business Administration from Ross and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in any of 18 programs of study from Michigan Engineering.

Strategic Leadership:

  • Serve as the central liaison for matters related to the Integrated Business and Engineering at Michigan (IBEM) dual-degree program, coordinating communication and collaboration between the College of Engineering and the Ross School of Business.
  • Partner with (supervisor) and IBEM Faculty Director to set and execute strategic goals for the program, seeking faculty and staff alignment across the two schools.
  • Directly supervise and provide professional development support for IBEM staff.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture focused on synthesizing resources and engagement strategies from both schools.
  • Represent the IBEM program to internal and external stakeholders, including university partners, media, and donors.

Innovation & Integration:

  • Lead initiatives to unify disparate policies, processes, and communications, including academic advising, degree requirements, and experiential learning.
  • Develop and launch co-curricular programming and resources that synthesize information and opportunities from both schools.
  • Identify gaps and inconsistencies between the schools and create practical solutions for students, faculty, and staff.

Student Success:

  • Oversee the advising and support structure for dual degree students, ensuring consistent, accurate, and comprehensive information across all degree pathways.
  • Design tools and pathways to help students navigate requirements, opportunities, and challenges unique to their dual degree experience.
  • Advocate for dual degree students and champion initiatives that promote inclusion, well-being, and professional development.

Operational Excellence:

  • Collaborate with undergraduate program offices in both schools to streamline records, registration, and graduation processes.
  • Oversee budgets and external funds, ensuring alignment with program strategy and compliance with financial policies.
  • Collect and analyze program metrics for assessment, continuous improvement, and reporting purposes.

Required Qualifications:

  • A master's degree in higher education administration, business, engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education administration, program management, student services, or a related professional field
  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff, leading teams, and supporting professional development
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing cross-disciplinary programs, preferably within complex, multi-unit academic environments
  • Significant experience facilitating partnerships and acting as a liaison between diverse stakeholder groups, such as academic departments, students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to set strategic goals, coordinate large-scale projects, and foster consensus across organizational boundaries
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex problems related to policy, process, and program delivery
  • Experience developing and managing co-curricular programming, experiential learning, or academic support initiatives
  • Strong understanding of student advising, advocacy, and holistic support practices, especially for students in specialized or dual degree programs
  • Commitment to student success and well-being
  • Experience with operations management, including budget oversight, financial analysis, and compliance with institutional policies
  • Proficient in collecting, analyzing, and reporting program metrics for assessment and continuous improvement
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively represent the program to internal and external audiences, including senior university leadership, media, and donors
  • Proficiency in standard office software; familiarity with educational technologies, student information systems, and data analysis tools

Additional position requirements:

  • Present information at events and in meetings.
  • May require travel across campus to conduct work and deliver materials.
  • May require work during early mornings, nights, and weekends.
  • May require domestic travel.
