Accounting Customer Service Accountant Intermediate
The University of Michigan Shared Services Center (U-M SSC) is a customer service organization focused on providing user-friendly and cost-effective administrative services to the university community. The SSC offers financial and human resource transactional support.
The Accounting Customer Service (ACS) Accountant reports to the Accounting Supervisor within the ACS team, collaborating with fellow Accountants and Associates. Each Accountant processes a variety of accounting transactions requested by internal customers in addition to completing monthly responsibilities as assigned. These responsibilities are expected to be delivered with excellent customer service, accuracy, and quality.
Work Location: Because occasional on-site presence may be required, you are expected to live within a reasonable commuting distance to Ann Arbor. You are required to have a high-speed internet connection and a designated working space in your home. Equipment, including a laptop and monitors, will be provided for your use.
Please Note: This position is a 2-year term-limited role, 40 hours per week. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- Journal Entry processing
- Analyze financial transactions for accuracy
- Use Business Objects (reports database) and PeopleSoft query in daily work
- Use Microsoft Suite in daily work, with emphasis in Excel (maintain complex spreadsheets and perform complex functions)
- Provide exceptional customer service to the university's schools, colleges, and units via TeamDynamix (TDx) ticketing system, telephone, and email
- Close the Accounts Payable and General Ledgers at month and year-end
- Chartfield structure/tree maintenance (Department, Project/Grant, Shortcode)
- Account Reconciliations
- Internal Review
- Financial Memo preparation
- Cash Advance Approvals
- Provide accounting guidance to the university community
- Embrace LEAN principles to support a continuous improvement culture, recommending and implementing process improvements
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting, 1+ years experience providing customer service, and 1+ years experience with business software tools.
