Position Duties
This position is responsible for managing the banking, treasury and investment operations of the University including cash flow analysis, foreign exchange transactions, maintenance of accounts and other treasury services. Reports directly to the University Controller and works closely with the Controller's Office, Advancement Office and other departments under the Vice President for the Finance division. Position also works closely with the University's investment consultant in the management of the University's investment and endowment portfolio.
Assist in the monitoring of the University's investment portfolio by: Working with University's investment consultant and investment custodian to execute re-balancing decisions of Board Investment Committee, including all redemptions and new investments. - Managing the payment and receipt of capital calls and distributions. - Assist in the review and completion of new subscription agreements for investments and amendments of existing agreements. - Monitoring investment management fees. - Preparing monthly roll forwards of investments and journal entries to post investment activity based on statements provided from investment managers.
Assist in certain endowment related activities including: - Executing trades for a small piece of the endowment managed by students, initiating capital calls for investments, and perform other analyses to minimize costs and manage risks. - Monitoring endowment cash balances and cash flow activity in the University's endowment pool, including anticipated inflows and outflows. - Working with Advancement Office, Controller's Office, and investment custodian to execute endowment gift stock redemptions. - Forecasting annual endowment spending.
Manage the University's Treasury operations by: - Monitoring working capital cash balances, ensuring adequate cash is available for operations and capital expenditures while maximizing the amount of cash invested. - Recommending transfers between banks and within accounts. - Seeking to ensure the University's working capital cash investment vehicles are appropriate with regard to liquidity, risk, duration, return, fee structure, etc. - Assessing current treasury operations; make improvements as necessary. - Remaining up to date on the complexities and evolving trends in treasury operations.
Monitoring the University's debt balances by: - Reviewing statements for deposits with trustees and recording activity in the general ledger. - Reviewing and processing debt service payments. - Calculating and accruing interest on bonds and recording amortization of debt issuance costs and premium/discounts.
Support the annual audit process with regards to debt, treasury and investments by: - Preparing year-end confirmation letters to investment managers and financial institutions. - Working with the University's independent audit firm on requests related to investments, endowment and debt for the year-end audit and assist with the preparation of the financial statement footnotes for the related areas.
Responsible for reporting investment and endowment activity of the University including: - Preparing the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) and Teachers Insurance & Annuity Associate of America (TIAA) Endowment Study and various reports as needed. - Supporting the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees by attending meetings and taking minutes of those meetings.
Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field.
Minimum of three years' experience in accounting or finance with an emphasis on non-profit endowments and investments preferred.
Detail-oriented nature with strong attention to detail and analytical skills. Must understand the banking industry and the foreign currency market. High level of integrity, ethics, professionalism. Commitment to support the University's mission and values. Strong interpersonal, analytical, written and verbal communication skills. Self-motivator; demonstrated evidence of building collegial relationships. Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy and completeness, ability to prioritize multiple tasks and complete work in a timely and accurate manner. Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database software. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word. Workday experience a plus. Ability to effectively interpret and follow University and departmental personnel and accounting policies, procedures and practices. Must be able to support the University's goals for institutional diversity, as well as the goals and values of a Catholic, Jesuit education. Higher ed or not-for-profit experience preferred.
