"Accounting Manager"

Job Summary

Provides financial accounting expertise, analysis, and leadership support for accounting processes and monthly financial closing. Oversee and assist in all quarterly reviews and annual audits. Prepare/process critical journal entries that may include areas such as revenue recognition, endowments, leases, and capital assets. Oversight and monitoring of designated and intramural research funds allocated to various departments. Assist in preparing and providing monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting and accounting information to supporting agencies in accordance with GAAP and other governing agency rules. Works closely with the Sponsored Programs Department for accounting and reporting on financial matters relating to external grants and contracts. Oversees cash management processes on Federal Draws. Work with Advancement on accounting matters relating to gifts and contributions receivable. Acts as a liaison with campus administrative departments and auditors. Assists in problem solving and reconciliations. Provides guidance and training in policy and procedures. Provides the University Controller with assistive support in leading the overall internal and external financial reporting and technical accounting processes and functions at the University. Assist in oversight, mentorship, and development of Controller’s office staff. Works collaboratively with the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team to provide assistive management of critical FP&A projections, reporting and projects.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel which enables review and analysis and supports the production of reports with both summary and detailed information.
• High-level critical thinking skills to determine potential areas of risk or concern quickly and accurately for the University regarding data and/or activities.
• Well-developed interpersonal skills to effectively manage the staff within the areas of responsibility, as well as develop and maintain relationships with colleagues across campuses.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required. Minimum of 3 years experience in the Accounting field, 5+ years preferred

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance, Preferred. Experience and accounting expertise in the higher education or not-for-profit industry preferred, including experience with fund accounting as well as grant accounting. Audit experience preferred, including audits of higher education or not-for-profit organizations and Uniform Guidance audits of federal funding. Certified Public Accountant (CPA Designation) Preferred. Preferred knowledge of Ellucian Banner or other ERP software.

Classification Pay Scale

In compliance with SB 1162, Western University of Health Sciences is providing a pay scale for this position. The pay scale reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within this range, the individual pay is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and work location. Please note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only.

Expected Pay Scale
Minimum: $125,000.00 Annually
Maximum: $125,000.00 Annually
