"Activity Assistant IV - Part-Time"

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a part-time Activities Assistant IV for the Acute Psych Services Department within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care. The primary purpose of the Activities Assistant IV is to provide therapeutic games, groups, activities for patient's leisure time and recreation projects on the acute services inpatient units. This person is the relief for the activities assistant on days off, holidays and vacation.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Documents patient's response to groups in the clinical record.
• Provides direct activity therapy consistent with social, emotional and developmental functioning of patients as planned by Activity Assistant III.
• Participates as an active member of the interdisciplinary team.
• Facilitates recreational groups that assist the patient in learning productive leisure activities and appropriate interaction with other people.
• Maintains current knowledge base for new trends in his/her area of expertise.
• Assists in maintaining a safe, therapeutic milieu.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Successful completion of a one (1) year training program as a Mental Health Specialist Trainee or one (1) year of similar full-time experience in the mental health field.
• An Associate's Degree, preferably in a related field, including 12 credits in human services, such as psychology or its equivalent may be substituted for the minimum requirements of the position.
