Adjunct Instructor, School of Architecture and Interior Design, College of DAAP

Job Overview

The College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for Architecture Adjunct Faculty positions at the top-ranked School of Architecture and Interior Design (SAID).

The School of Architecture and Interior Design (SAID) confers an accredited first professional graduate degree in Architecture (M Arch), an accredited professional degree in Interior Design (BSID), an undergraduate degree in Architecture (BS Arch), post-professional degrees in each discipline (MS Arch and M.IntD) and the Ph.D. degree in Architecture. The core mission of the profession programs at SAID is to prepare students for critical engagement with practice. The foundation of all of the studio programs at SAID remains a liberal arts education, which provides a broad basis for understanding the role of architecture within a cultural and historical context; the professional curricula are enriched with elective seminars, lectures and design studios that provide opportunities to engage in travel/study programs, experimental projects, and service-learning. Students alternate these more traditional academic experiences with periods of professional experience through our landmark cooperative education program (Co-op).

Adjuncts teaching in the studio based programs are expected to deliver professional knowledge to our students in a team setting, while working closely with students on a one-to-one basis in the studio setting. Most studio faculty will teach in the cross-disciplinary foundation program, teaching introductory courses such as SAID1001, SAID1002, or SAID2001. At times, faculty may be sought for upper-division undergraduate and graduate studios. Faculty may be sought for a limited number of subject-area support courses (typically in construction technology, building systems, architectural history/theory and historic preservation, and professional practice) as required by the needs of the School Administration. On a part-time limited basis, the Adjunct Faculty member’s primary academic functions include teaching, discovering, creating, and reporting knowledge to a set of students.

Essential Functions

  • On a part-time basis, conduct and teach assigned undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses and seminars.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present complex material to students unfamiliar with a subject.
