Job Description

Classification Title: ASO/FULL PROF - Diabetes with Expertise in Cardiovascular Research

Classification Minimum Requirements: Those with an MD or DO degree must possess or be eligible for a Florida Medical License. The major assignment will be in research, but the candidate is also welcome to participate in clinical service and teaching efforts that are negotiable.

The Department of Pathology, Immunology, and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine invites applications for a tenure-track scientist or physician-scientist position. The candidate is expected to assume leadership of for the NIH NIDDK/NHLBI supported Cardiovascular Repository for Type 1 Diabetes (CaRe-T1D) program (www.caret1d.org), contribute effort to the world-renowned University of Florida Diabetes Institute (UFDI), have a track record of sustained extramural research grant support, and have made significant scientific contributions to the fields of human diabetes, cardiovascular pathology, and/or vascular biology. Experience in biobanking is highly desirable. The candidate also has the opportunity for clinical service, preferably with cardiovascular or renal pathology; however, those with related experience in endocrinology or other medical disciplines are also encouraged to apply.

The department is composed of approximately 80 faculty members, 28 specializing in experimental pathology, and is ranked in the top 10 in NIH funding amongst U.S. public university departments of pathology. The department's faculty play key leadership roles in a series of well-established departmental core facilities (e.g., metabolomics, genomics, molecular pathology) and provide Directorship to many of its Institutes and Centers (e.g., UFDI, Center for Immunology and Transplantation (CIT), Center for Cellular Reprogramming (CCR)). The department's faculty have embraced the need to see Artificial Intelligence (AI) integrated into many facets of research and clinical care, including digital pathology, by leveraging UF's HiPerGator supercomputing resources powered by leading-edge NVIDIA technology. The UFDI and Pathology Department research laboratories are well-supported by experienced technical staff (e.g., certified/licensed technicians, graduate-level and post-doctoral trainees, pathology assistants, administrative support staff), with a modern biobanking facility. Finally, UF has recently made significant financial investments into cutting-edge research technologies that will form the basis for next-generation efforts in molecular pathology, genetics, and cell biology.

The department has substantial resources that will be committed to the successful candidate, including an Endowed Chair, transfer of existing grants, and laboratory space necessary to meet the candidate's operational vision.

Expected Salary: Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Required Qualifications: Candidates should currently hold a tenure-track appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level at their institution. Those with an MD or DO degree must possess or be eligible for a Florida Medical License. The major assignment will be in research, but the candidate is also welcome to participate in clinical service and teaching efforts that are negotiable.

Preferred: Experience in bio-banking is highly desirable.
