In this role, you will be the welcoming face of University of Melbourne Archives, guiding diverse users. You will manage research enquiries end to end, champion archival access, and support digitisation and collection care.
In this role, you will be the welcoming face of University of Melbourne Archives, guiding diverse users. You will manage research enquiries end to end, champion archival access, and support digitisation and collection care.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Deliver responsive reference services across in-person, online and telephone channels, resolving diverse research enquiries efficiently and professionally.
- Coordinate retrieval, tracking and return of archival items, ensuring accurate documentation and secure movement of collections.
- Safeguard collection condition by assessing materials in use and applying access conditions in line with policy.
- Contribute to digitisation initiatives through project proposals, metadata creation and effective liaison with digitisation service providers.
- Support Reading Room operations, including service desk shifts, space maintenance and collaboration on teaching and collection activities.
You may be a great fit if:
- Hold or are currently undertaking, with other relevant experience, postgraduate qualifications in archives, records or information management, or bring equivalent relevant education and experience.
- Offer practical experience in archives or records environments, applying archival standards within complex or large-scale collections.
- Have working knowledge of archival collection management and reference management systems used to track and deliver material.
- Understand and apply archival collection care and manual handling standards to protect materials in active use.
- Work collaboratively within a team environment, contributing reliably to shared workflows and service improvements.
- Stay informed about current and emerging trends in archives and information management, and value university archives in education.
You may also:
- Be committed to delivering high-quality customer service in a student-facing environment.
- Possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex policies.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey complex information clearly.
- Demonstrate flexibility and initiative when managing competing priorities in a diverse environment.
- Be proficient in using student systems and Microsoft Office applications.
