Senior Librarian, Client Services, Fryer Library

About This Opportunity

Founded in 1927, the Fryer Library’s collections include Australian literary publications, manuscripts, photographs, architectural drawings, recordings, and rare books. As part of the University of Queensland (UQ) Library, the Fryer Library plays a critical role supporting research, UQ teaching and community engagement.

We are seeking an energetic, organised and collaborative library professional to coordinate all aspects of client experience for the Fryer Library. The position requires extensive collaboration across the Fryer Library and the broader Library to deliver a wide range of on-campus and online activities that raise awareness and use of special collections and engage diverse audiences with our unique collections.

It is an exciting time for Fryer Library as we plan for our Centenary in 2027, continuing to promote the value of our significant heritage collections while exploring innovative ways to broaden reach and impact through digital technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead client services for users of Fryer Library’s special collections, coordinating high-quality reference, reading room and research support services for diverse internal and external users.
  • Provide people leadership, including supervising and supporting a team of three staff to deliver consistent, high-quality services, and liaising with other members of the Fryer Library to deliver on shared goals.
  • Coordinate and deliver inspiring learning experiences incorporating object-based learning, that build information and digital literacy skills with a focus on primary sources.
  • Drive collection promotion and engagement - leading programs such as exhibitions, events, tours and digital initiatives that increase awareness and use of the collections.
  • Contribute to operational and strategic planning, and collect and report on qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant rights and licences including copyright, cultural access protocols including Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) and donor agreements.

About You

  • A qualification in library, archives and/or information management, with relevant experience working in special collections.
  • Proven experience leading staff and delivering high-quality reference and information services, including the design and delivery of engaging learning experiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse client groups.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and the ability to foster positive, collaborative relationships within and across teams.
  • Well-developed organisational and digital skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities, and confidently use library-specific information systems and technology.

Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and an understanding of copyright, licensing and cultural access protocols are highly desirable.
