Required Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have earned their doctorate in communication or closely related fields by the time of appointment in August 2026.
  • Publications in top-tier communication journals.
  • Proven record of teaching excellence in at least 3 undergraduate or graduate courses offered by the Department.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Be able to teach communication theory at the undergraduate level.
  • Be able to teach qualitative or quantitative methods courses at the graduate level.

Description:

The Department of Communication in the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oklahoma seeks a tenure-track or tenured communication scholar at the Assistant or Associate rank. We seek applicants with teaching experience and publications spanning multiple areas of current departmental specialization, including two or more of the following: health communication, organizational communication, communication and culture, media, interpersonal communication, persuasion, nonverbal communication, computer-mediated communication, and communication technology. The successful candidate will have a publication record consistent with a top-tier public university. A strong record of publication in in-field refereed journal articles, and especially in elite journals, is desired, as is experience teaching communication theory and quantitative or qualitative methods.

Norman, Oklahoma (population approx. 128,000) is located in the heart of the state. The city has been consistently rated as one of the top 100 best places in which to live by various magazines. The city offers a wide variety of cultural, educational, leisure, and recreational opportunities and a lower than the national average cost of living. It is conveniently located less than 20 miles from a large airport and the opportunities of a major metropolitan area, Oklahoma City (over 1.4 million).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct leading-edge communication research.
  • Teach a 2-2 course load in the undergraduate and graduate program.
  • Mentor graduate students and participate on graduate committees.
  • Serve on department committees, as needed.
