Assistant Coordinator of Student Activities, Student Engagement & Leadership Development
MCCC Unit Professional position, Grade 3
Campus Location: Lynn and Danvers and may have up to 1 remote day per month.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
SALARY: Anticipated starting salary is $56,985.00 - $60,000.00. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA collective bargaining agreement. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Assistant Coordinator of Student Activities is responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of a vibrant calendar of recreational, wellness, intramural, and student engagement program. This position supports the holistic development of students by promoting campus involvement, leadership opportunities, and physical well-being through structured programs and inclusive events. Working as part of the College's Wellness Hub, this role intentionally bridges student engagement with academic programs in health, nutrition, and related fields - ensuring student benefit from coordinated physical, mental, and academic supports.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plan, promote, and implement a variety of recreational and intramural sports activities for students, including leagues, tournaments, fitness events, and wellness programs.
- Assess student interests to inform the development of new recreational initiatives that promote health, teamwork, and school spirit.
- Reserve facilities, secure necessary equipment, and ensure a safe environment for all activities.
- Recruit, train, and supervise student workers, officials, and volunteers to support intramural sports and wellness events.
- Maintain records of participation and program outcomes for assessment and reporting purposes.
- Collaborate in planning and executing co-curricular programs, including cultural, social, and leadership development events.
- Collaborate with the Wellness Hub, Mental Health Support, and Health & Nutrition academic programs to develop co-curricular wellness initiatives that reinforce classroom learning (e.g., stress management workshops, healthy cooking demonstrations, fitness challenges).
- Partner with faculty in health-related disciplines to design engagement opportunities where students can apply academic concepts in real-world settings (e.g., peer-led nutrition education, exercise science demonstrations, or public health campaigns).
- Align recreational and wellness programming with academic content areas to promote integrative learning and support pathways in health professions.
- Assist student clubs and organizations in coordinating recreational and community-building events.
- Contribute to the design and promotion of campus-wide traditions, welcome programming and stress relief programming during midterms and finals.
- Support the Student Government Association in ideation and execution of engaging programs.
- Design and distribute marketing materials including posters, flyers, digital content, and calendars using graphic design tools and campus platforms.
- Maintain databases and records, including participant waivers, evaluations, and student organization rosters.
- Assist in the management of front-desk operations as needed.
- Represent The Office of Student Engagement at college events (Open Houses, Resources Fairs, Transfer Visits, Commencement, etc.)
- Attend College wide meetings
- Participate in professional development opportunities
- Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Director of Student Engagement & Leadership Development
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Recreation Management, Student Affairs, or a related field.
- Two (2) years of experience in student activities, recreational program planning, leadership development, or related field.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Creative, energetic, and student-centered approach to program development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse and inclusive environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva, and/or other design and publishing tools.
- Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working in a higher education setting, preferably at a community college.
- Experience collaborating with faculty or academic departments, especially in health, nutrition, or wellness-related disciplines, to connect co-curricular activities with academic outcomes.
- Familiarity with wellness, recreation, or intramural management software.
- Experience with student supervision, leadership development, or student advising.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus.
