Coordinator of First-Generation Student Supports

The Coordinator of First-Generation Programs in the Office of Access and Community Programs (OACP) will report to the Assistant Vice President for Access and Community Programs. This role leads the development and implementation of innovative initiatives designed to advance the success of first-generation college students supporting their transition, persistence, and graduation while cultivating belonging, social support, and well-being. Additionally, they are responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Success Scholars Program, an initiative developed to address the needs of first-generation and Pell-eligible students at the institution. The coordinator will work across OACP, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and other institutional partners to support, retain, and graduate UTampa's first-generation students.
Responsibilities
- Develop a retention focused Success Scholars Program curriculum while growing the program's impact.
- Develop and sustain a structured peer mentoring program that benefits all Success Scholars.
- Develop a strategic plan that allows for expansion of support for first generation students beyond the Success Scholars Program
- Oversee the recruitment, development, and continuous training of peer mentors to ensure they can effectively support first-generation students.
- Facilitate regular workshops, connect mentors with key university resources, and foster collaboration with campus partners so mentors are empowered to provide impactful guidance, advocacy, and personal support.
- Develop and implement UTampa community training that builds awareness of the first-generation student experience.
- Provide support and structure for the Success Scholars Work Study students who are employed in on-campus positions
- Plan and facilitate the Camp Spartan track of the Gateways Pre-Orientation Program.
- Manage 10+ student workers and provide one-on-one support to students.
- Co-develop and support the Living Learning Community for First-Generation students and Success Scholars.
- Develop strategic partnerships with key campus partners that supplement the resources available to first-generation students.
- Plan and execute programming for the National First-Gen Day Celebration.
- Plan and facilitate travel with students to the First-Generation conference
- Provide ongoing support for first-generation students.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (required).
- Master's degree (preferred)
- A minimum of 3 years of professional full-time work experience in higher education or related field
- Knowledge of first-generation college students' research and best practices.
- Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Available to work some evenings and weekends and occasionally travel overnight (for events and/or training).
- Ability to set priorities, use analytical reasoning, and integrate results into meaningful program activities.
- Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and develop strategic support for university-wide retention goals.
- A demonstrated commitment to the principles of student development theory.
- Knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.

Summer: Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
