Assistant Director, Career Design Lab

Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director, the Assistant Director, Career Design Lab works as part of the Career Design Lab team in advising and educating students regarding career goals, strategies and individual professional development through individual advising sessions, small group workshops and presentations. The Assistant Director works closely with the Associate Director in marketing, facilitating and evaluating programming including workshops, panels, on-campus and online recruitment events plus networking opportunities. Supporting the web-based career management system, website and online programming as well as general employer relations, the Assistant Direct also directly supervises Student Interns.

Responsibilities

Career Services Generalist

  • Provide school-wide programs and services for students, alumni, and employers.
  • Work in various Standing teams on long-term, school-wide projects, services, and programs as well as Agile Teams for short-term pilot projects and testing.

Program-Specific Support

  • Work directly with academic director and administrators from assigned program(s) for tailored support.
  • Provide career advising including individual coaching sessions to students, resume/CV critiques, and the administration of assessment inventories, mock interviews, and job search techniques.
  • Develop a repository of career development resources that is available to all SPS students (e.g. external resources as well as internally produced materials).
  • Develop initiatives focused on industry specific career outreach in targeted industries.
  • Facilitate a wide-range of recruitment opportunities for the benefit of SPS students in your assigned program(s); manage the design and delivery of recruiting activities for these students; maintain relationships to support the potential of future opportunities; uphold quality of recruiting services provided, and retain employer related data to improve the recruiting program.
  • Align qualified student talent with employer interest and needs; implement assessment based strategies to effectively cultivate student talent; manage the coordination of program-specific career events; oversee the communication between appropriate campus departments and program participants; conduct on-going assessment and provide feedback as to the effectiveness of such events.
  • Maintain the quality of resume books and processes, resume referral, and other methods of presenting students and alumni to employers; establish and enforce guidelines for student participation in the recruiting program including recruiting deadlines, procedures, and schedules.
  • May be responsible for supervising the work of one (1) or more employees.

Performs other duties and projects as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent related experience required.
  • 3 years related experience.
  • A resume and cover letter with salary requirements must be submitted to be considered for the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Substantial experience with career services technology in career assessment, recruitment/job boards, Applicant Tracking System (ATS), employer outreach, marketing, social media, and program and systems assessment.
  • Experience in a supervisory role including the training and development of staff is strongly preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Experience with career advising in higher educational setting with strong knowledge and experience with career coaching.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, balance school-wide and program-specific workload with shifting priorities and short-deadlines.
  • Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently and carefully manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously with short deadlines in a high volume environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills required, particularly for building trust and effective relationships with assigned academic programs.

Hours Per Week: 35

Salary Range: $80,000 - $87,625

*The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.*
