Job Description

The Assistant Director for the Bonner Program supports Stetson University by implementing the day-to-day operations of the Bonner Program and creating meaningful opportunities for student learning through community impact. This full-time position works exclusively with the Bonner Program to coordinate the four-year developmental curriculum, manage Bonner Scholar and Leader placements and training, maintain community partner relationships, oversee logistics and operations, and support assessment initiatives. Serving as a key member of the Center for Community Engagement team, the Assistant Director for Bonner Program serves as a primary point of contact for stakeholders in real time, and strengthens collaboration between students, partners, and the university. This position helps Bonner Scholars and Leaders connect their community engagement experiences to academic and career goals. In alignment with Stetson's Strategic Priorities (Download PDF reader), the Assistant Director for Bonner Program will promote a people-centered, high-performing, and relationship-rich culture of inclusive excellence through hands-on program coordination and student support.

The hire date for this position will be no sooner than 7/1/2026.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

Employment duties include, but are not limited to:

Bonner Program Operations and Coordination
  • Implement day-to-day operations of the Bonner Program's four-year developmental curriculum based on the Bonner Foundation's Common Commitments: community building, diversity, civic engagement, social justice, international perspective, and spiritual exploration
  • Organize and facilitate logistics for all Bonner Program meetings, workshops, training sessions, and enrichment activities throughout the academic year
  • Coordinate logistics and on-site execution of Bonner cornerstone activities including the First-Year Trip, Sophomore Exchange, Junior Capstone projects, and Senior Presentations of Learning
  • Maintain comprehensive records and documentation for Bonner Scholars and Leaders including service hours, placement information, project details, and student development data in program databases and tracking systems
  • Monitor Bonner Scholar and Leader progress through the four-year program, track completion of program requirements, and identify students needing additional support
  • Coordinate recruitment and selection activities for new Bonner Scholars and Leaders, including scheduling interviews, managing application materials, and communicating with prospective students
  • Create and distribute regular communication materials for current and prospective Bonner Scholars and Leaders including newsletters, program updates, and promotional materials
  • Manage Bonner Program technology platforms including GivePulse, databases, tracking systems, and communication tools, ensuring data accuracy and system functionality
Student Support and Advising
  • Provide ongoing advising and support to Bonner Scholars and Leaders regarding community placements, project development, service hour completion, and program requirements
  • Execute placement matching process by connecting Bonner Scholars and Leaders with appropriate community placements based on their interests, skills, developmental goals, and partner needs
  • Design and facilitate regular reflection activities and discussions to help Bonner Scholars and Leaders process their community engagement experiences and connect service to learning
  • Coordinate Bonner student leadership development training initiatives and create opportunities for peer leadership
  • Identify and communicate capacity-building opportunities for Bonner Scholars and Leaders within community partner organizations
  • Provide guidance to Bonner Scholars and Leaders on integrating community engagement with academic coursework, internships, and career preparation
  • Monitor student well-being, address concerns promptly, and connect Bonner Scholars and Leaders with campus resources as needed
  • Maintain regular office hours and availability for drop-in student support and advising
Community Partnership Management
  • Manage day-to-day relationships with community partners hosting Bonner Scholars and Leaders, serving as primary operational contact for partner questions and concerns
  • Coordinate annual partnership processes including partnership agreements, site orientations, onboarding of new site supervisors, and regular check-ins throughout the year
  • Conduct regular site visits to Bonner Scholar and Leader placements to maintain strong working relationships with community partners, observe student experiences, and address any issues
  • Assist community partners with creating, refining, and updating placement descriptions and learning objectives for Bonner Scholar and Leader positions
  • Organize and facilitate partner training and orientation sessions to ensure community partners understand program expectations, student development principles, and best practices for supervising students
  • Plan and implement community partner recognition efforts and appreciation activities throughout the year
  • Maintain and regularly update community partner database with current contact information, placement opportunities, partnership agreements, and interaction history
  • Troubleshoot placement issues and mediate student-partner conflicts as they arise
Assessment and Reporting
  • Collect and analyze data on Bonner Scholar and Leader participation, service hours, placement details, and programmatic outcomes using established assessment tools
  • Compile data and information for annual reports to the Bonner Foundation and assist Program Director with narrative report development
  • Document success stories, student testimonials, and impact narratives through interviews and surveys for use in program marketing, grant applications, and annual reports
  • Administer assessment tools to measure student learning outcomes, community impact, and partner satisfaction
  • Maintain organized digital and physical records of program activities, student achievements, and partnership outcomes
  • Prepare weekly and monthly internal reports on program activities and key performance indicators for Program Director review
Marketing and Communication
  • Create content highlighting Bonner Scholar and Leader achievements and program impacts for newsletters, social media, website, and other communication channels
  • Coordinate documentation and storytelling of Bonner Scholar and Leader projects through photos, videos, and written narratives
  • Develop print and digital materials for Bonner Program recruitment, events, and cornerstone activities
  • Manage communication channels with Bonner Scholars and Leaders including email updates, text messages, and program announcements
  • Post Bonner-related opportunities on university platforms including GivePulse, Engage, and other relevant systems
  • Delegate marketing and communication tasks to graduate assistant when position is filled, while maintaining oversight and quality control of all marketing materials
Support for Broader Engagement Initiatives
  • Provide operational support for Bonner Scholars' and Leaders' community-based research projects and Junior Capstone work
  • Connect Bonner Scholars and Leaders with faculty mentors for research projects and academic integration opportunities
  • Collaborate with campus departments to promote Bonner Scholar and Leader participation in relevant campus programs and events
  • Coordinate Bonner Scholar and Leader participation in service-learning initiatives and alternative break programs
  • Support departmental initiatives and special projects as assigned by Program Director

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The knowledge, skills, and abilities for this role include:

  • Strong communication skills with ability to engage effectively with students, community partners, faculty, and staff
  • Understanding of student development theory and college student populations
  • Knowledge of community engagement principles, service-learning pedagogy, and volunteer management best practices
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with diverse populations
  • Experience or knowledge of working with community partner organizations and nonprofit sector
  • Proficiency with technology platforms including databases, social media, communication tools, and student engagement systems
  • Data collection and analysis skills for assessment and reporting purposes
  • Marketing and communication skills including content creation, graphic design, and social media management
  • Cultural competency and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Problem-solving abilities and resourcefulness in addressing student and partner needs
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team

Required Qualifications:

This position requires:

  • Bachelor's degree in student affairs, higher education, social work, nonprofit management, community development, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in community engagement, service-learning, student affairs, volunteer management, or related programs
  • Experience coordinating programs, events, or projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience working with community partnerships or nonprofit organizations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to learn new technology platforms
  • Commitment to social justice and community engagement principles
  • Ability to work flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends for programs and events
  • Ability to travel locally for site visits and community meetings

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University's auto insurance carrier.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in student affairs, higher education, social work, nonprofit management, community development, or related field
  • Experience with Bonner Program, Campus Compact, or similar service-scholarship programs
  • Background in advising, mentoring, or coaching college students
  • Experience with student development assessment and learning outcomes measurement
  • Facilitation skills for reflection activities and group discussions
  • Knowledge of service-learning pedagogy and community-based learning theory
  • Experience with database management and student information systems
  • Social media management and content creation skills
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation college students
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) to better serve community partners and students
  • Previous experience as a Bonner Scholar or Leader, AmeriCorps member, or participant in similar service programs

Work Environment:

The work environment is a dynamic, fast-paced office setting with extensive collaboration with students, staff, faculty, and community partners. This position involves substantial computer work combined with active student engagement and community-based fieldwork. Regular site visits to community partner locations require travel within the local area. The position requires flexibility to attend and facilitate programs, meetings, and events scheduled during evenings and weekends, with arrangements made to ensure comparable time off within the same week. Work includes participation in campus events, community gatherings, and occasional conferences. The role balances administrative office responsibilities with hands-on, field-based work in community settings. Some positions may be eligible for flexible work arrangements subject to departmental needs and approval.

Pay Grade: 5

Work authorization sponsorship may be available for this position. However, sponsorship is contingent upon the non-applicability of the visa petition fees outlined in the relevant Executive Order signed September 19, 2025. Due to the recent federally-mandated increased financial expense, the university is not in a position to absorb this significantly increased cost of sponsorship for new H-1B petitions at this time.
