Job Summary/Basic Function

The Assistant Director of Education Abroad and International Services is responsible for leading the Study Abroad Programs and assisting with the International Student and Scholarship Programs in the Warfel Center for International Programs and Services at Millersville University. The Assistant Director reports to the Assistant Vice President of International Programs and Global Engagement and works in close collaboration with a team to support MU's undergraduate, graduate, English Language Institute, and non-degree international students and the University's J-1 scholars.

This position involves the day-to-day operation and development of study abroad programs, international student and scholar programming, short term programs, and immigration advising and compliance. Additionally, this position maintains export control compliance for the university and serves as a primary contact for crisis responses related to international students, international scholars, Millersville University study abroad students and faculty members.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in international education, higher education administration, public administration or related field.
  • Professional work experience in international education.
  • Flexibility, willingness, and ability to pursue and adopt new ideas, information and technology, and process and summarize information.
  • Must possess strong: customer service skills, organizational skills, including managing multiple concurrent and complex projects/priorities, analytical and problem-solving skills, emotional intelligence and active listening skills, decision making skills.
  • Ability to: work independently and contribute and collaborate effectively as a member of a team, handle communications, information, and data with sensitivity and confidentiality, work with faculty, staff, external customers, and students of diverse cultures, race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic groups, increase productivity and continuously improve methods, approaches, and department contribution while remaining cost sensitive, make decisions that are supportive of the mission of the department, division, and the University, maintain a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism, proactively approach problems/issues, make data driven decisions, lead by example.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in helping to plan and administer programs and events.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and working with diverse student populations.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful completion of three background checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master degree in international education, higher education administration, public administration or related field.
  • 3 years of professional work experience in international education.
  • Experience using Slate for admissions processing of student applicants.
  • Experience as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO).
  • Experience advising faculty, staff, and students on international education initiatives.
  • Highly developed negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Fluency in one or more foreign languages.
  • Experience living and/or travelling abroad highly desirable.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

This position is represented by a labor union and is subject to the terms and conditions of the SCUPA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Ability to work on campus. Days Worked: Monday - Friday. Hours/Shift worked: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
