Basic Function: The California Lutheran University Graduate School of Psychology (GSoP) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position (at the rank of either Assistant or Associate Professor) in our APA-accredited PsyD Program in Clinical Psychology beginning in Fall 2026. The PsyD Program is a secular program that values science and social justice and directly affirms sexual and gender minority inclusivity. Under the direction of the Dean and Department Chair, the Assistant or Associate Professor is responsible for providing academic instruction to students for the assigned graduate courses. The successful applicant for these positions will demonstrate outstanding commitment to doctoral teaching and dissertation research mentorship. While the positions are open to applicants with demonstrated expertise and capacity to teach across any area of health service psychology, we particularly invite applicants with a background in neuropsychology, health psychology, forensic psychology, or cognitive and personality assessment. Additional duties include developing a program of research that engages graduate students, academic advising, dissertation supervision, clinical supervision of doctoral trainees, participating in ongoing program development within the PsyD program, serving on faculty and university committees, and establishing collaborative relationships within the University and broader community. The Graduate School of Psychology is comprised of a PsyD program in Clinical Psychology, Master of Science programs in Clinical Psychology and Counseling Psychology (MFT emphasis), and a large community counseling center that provides low-fee Spanish and English clinical services both in person and telehealth (over 10,000 appointments annually). For faculty interested in research with clinical populations, the clinics provide individual, couples, family, group, and child services to community members with mild to moderate mental health issues and currently offer specialized programs in dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. The PsyD program currently accepts 25 students per cohort and distinguishes itself by having small classes, a caring faculty and staff, state of the art facilities and technology, and a rigorous curriculum designed to train students in accordance with APA's Profession-wide Competencies. The program is committed to training students to integrate science and practice, develop competency in research and scholarship, and appreciate human diversity by serving the underserved.

Representative Duties:

  • Provide academic instruction to students through lecture; assess and develop student communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments and activities.
  • Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills; refer students to support services, programs, resources, and other professionals as appropriate.
  • Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and student learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide feedback in a timely manner to student inquiries in class, online, or during established office hours.
  • Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes to maximize student learning in alignment with program and university mission/goals; implement the student performance objectives as listed on the official course outline of record.
  • Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, student academic progress, and student learning outcomes.
  • Evaluate and select instructional materials such as textbooks, manuals, software, and tools in collaboration, as appropriate, with other faculty; order instructional materials according to campus bookstore procedure to ensure timely delivery.
  • Create creative assignments and activities in one-on-one and classroom instructional settings to foster hands-on, active learning in students that will develop their expertise in the subject matter.
  • Maintain an active research program that involves graduate research assistants and collaborators.
  • Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and student learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide feedback promptly to student inquiries in class, online, or during established consultation office hours.
  • Teach and hold office hours in person on campus, at least 4 days per week.
  • Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, student academic progress, course curriculum; prepare and submit grades, data, and reports related to the course and student progress promptly.
  • Provide a course syllabus to students in each class within the first week of the class, as outlined in the faculty handbook.
  • Adhere to the responsibilities related to teaching, advising, service, and scholarly, professional, and creative activities, as outlined in the faculty handbook.
  • Attend and participate on committees and in the department, division, campus, and University meetings.
  • Evening and weekend hours may be required.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

  • Either proven or presumptive potential for satisfactorily fulfilling a faculty member's duties and responsibilities and making significant contributions to the University community.

Minimum Qualifications: A PhD or PsyD degree in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology from a regionally accredited institution at the time of appointment (ABD applications are accepted).

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants from APA-accredited doctoral programs in clinical or counseling psychology.

Licenses and Other Requirements: Licensed or license-eligible to practice as a psychologist in California within three years of employment.

Physical Abilities: Detect to understand appropriate written correspondence; communicate clearly to exchange information in person and via the telephone or video; operate a computer and other office productivity machinery; stationary position for extended periods of time; move or transport light objects; position self to store and/or retrieve files.

Working Environment: Indoor classroom environment; subject to visiting a variety of classroom sites on campus.
