Assistant Professor of Practice - Psychology - T10129
The primary location of this position is the Cullowhee, NC campus.
The Psychology Department at Western Carolina University (WCU) invites applications for a 9-month fixed-term Assistant Professor of Practice. The anticipated start date is August 2026 but a January 2026 start date would be considered. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
The fixed-term faculty member selected for this position will have responsibilities related to teaching and supervising psychology graduate students at WCU. To this end, the successful candidate will have work experience as a licensed psychologist with a particular focus on assessment, diagnosis, and intervention.
Fixed-term faculty members in the department typically teach a 4/4 load, where supervision of internal (686/886) and external practicum counts toward the load each term. Other duties as assigned, and based on the candidate's experience and interest, may also take the place of a more traditional course.
The faculty member will be actively involved with graduate students through our department's state-of-the-art, public-facing McKee Assessment and Psychological Services Clinic. The McKee Clinic is dedicated to providing advanced assessment training for our graduate students (Master's, SSP, and PsyD) through affordable comprehensive services to individuals, families, and schools in Western North Carolina. Familiarity with similar settings is a plus. Depending on departmental needs, teaching of clinical- or career-oriented undergraduate courses (Undergraduate Internship, careers and issues, child psychopathology, child development, behavioral interventions, etc.), could also be part of the fixed-term faculty member's load. As such, experience with teaching is a plus.
Moreover, the eligible candidate needs to have earned a doctorate (PhD or PsyD) in clinical or health service psychology, or a closely related field, from an accredited institution. Licensure as a psychologist is required. Current or eligibility for licensure in North Carolina is preferred. As noted, experience with comprehensive assessment, supervision of assessment and other clinical work, and teaching of clinical courses in the candidate's area of expertise is particularly relevant.
