Position Summary/Description:

The Department of Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for tenure-track Assistant Professor Positions to begin on or after July 1, 2026.

We seek scholars with expertise in (1) Algorithms and Complexity Theory and (2) Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. We also welcome applications from exceptional candidates in all areas of computer science, including but not limited to machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, graphics, augmented/virtual reality, medical imaging, robotics, visualization, real-time and embedded/cyber-physical systems, formal verification, mobile computing, security and computer systems, and related fields. UNC Computer Science is a vibrant, collaborative department with a strong record of innovation in both core and applied computing.

Our mission is to advance the frontiers of computer science, translate ideas into impactful technologies, and provide outstanding education and mentorship at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We value interdisciplinary research that bridges subfields of computing and addresses pressing societal challenges. Faculty enjoy rich opportunities for collaboration across UNC, including with nationally recognized programs in medicine, public health, and the humanities and social sciences. The department maintains strong connections with the new School of Data Science & Society (SDSS) and supports cross-campus initiatives in data-driven discovery and computational scholarship.
