Assistant Professor For Social Work
The School of Social Work at Fayetteville State University (FSU) prepares competent social work professionals at undergraduate and graduate levels, promotes lifelong learning, and enhances the well-being of individuals, children, and families residing in rural, urban, and military communities throughout North Carolina, and globally. The Master of Social Work Program (MSW) at Fayetteville State University (FSU) prepares graduates for advanced social work practice and leadership with a focus on issues concerning children, families, the military, mental health, and substance misuse. The program is designed to prepare graduates to practice with individuals, families, groups, communities, and organizations in rural, urban, and military settings. The Master of Social Work (MSW) Program is fully accredited by the CSWE.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The School of Social Work invites applicants to apply to the tenure-track, nine-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor scheduled to begin Spring 2026. Candidates who apply will be considered for two available vacancies. The position will primarily involve teaching in the undergraduate program, but may also be responsible for teaching graduate courses and advising students academically. In addition to instructional duties, the successful applicant must maintain an active scholarship and service program and be willing to seek and participate in extramural funding. The salary for faculty positions is commensurate with the individual's experience. The School of Social Work is seeking an innovative educator excited about the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues who teach in this program.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Doctorate (PhD or DSW) in Social Work (ABD candidates will be considered, but a doctorate must be conferred before the employment start date) and
- Master of Social Work (MSW) from an accredited MSW Program.
- Two years post-MSW professional social work experience.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrate professional competence and knowledge of subject matter pertinent to their specialization area.
- Ability to utilize Canvas and innovative technology in the classroom.
- Ability to obtain external funding through grant writing.
- Ability to actively engage in scholarly activities such as conducting research and publishing in refereed journals.
- Demonstrated excellence in enthusiasm for, and commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Superior communications skills - verbal and written - including phone, letters, email, voicemail, videoconferencing, one-on-one and group.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, especially Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Zoom, Canvas, and SharePoint.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Teaching experience at the BSW and MSW levels.
- Commitment to scholarship and service.
