TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN INTEGRATIVE/ORGANISMAL PHYSIOLOGY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL SCIENCES

The Department of Natural Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Biology with an emphasis in integrative/organismal physiology at the Assistant Professor level to begin July 1, 2026. We seek a broadly trained biologist who is committed to developing a vibrant research program that fully engages undergraduate students in a liberal arts environment. We welcome applications from researchers with expertise in comparative physiology, integrative organismal biology, functional morphology, physiological ecology, or a related field. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and will be expected to teach a vertebrate physiology course with lab, participate in the ecology and evolution portion of the introductory biology sequence, and develop additional undergraduate courses in their field. The teaching load is 4.5 courses per year, with lectures and labs counted as separate courses. A Ph.D. degree and a record of scholarly publications are required prior to hiring, and post-doctoral experience is preferred.
The department, which houses the biology, chemistry, neuroscience, environmental science, and physics faculty for Pitzer and Scripps Colleges (two of the five undergraduate Claremont Colleges), offers innovative and interdisciplinary programs in the natural sciences. The department supports faculty success through mentorship, opportunities for professional development, and regular sabbaticals. The department recently expanded into a new 65,000 ft2 building and offers many shared facilities in support of research including an animal care facility, a microscope facility, and a new greenhouse. Faculty of the Department of Natural Sciences are part of the rich intellectual environment of the Claremont Colleges consortium and benefit from proximity to major research universities in the Southern California region, enabling collaboration both within and outside the department. The salary for this position will range from $100,000 - 110,000 and will be based on experience.
