Assistant Professor in Metabolomics of Adaptive Responses

The University of California, Riverside (UCR) is currently accepting applications for tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant level in metabolomics, focusing on cellular and physiological adaptive responses, as well as plant metabolism and nutrition. This position is part of a major initiative in the field of metabolomics, with UCR planning to expand its faculty in this research area over the next few years.

In addition to contributing to UCR's existing strengths in various areas such as the evolution of secondary metabolic pathways, medicinal plants, plant secondary metabolites, and human health, successful candidates will engage in emerging research areas like microbiomes, eco-metabolomics, and quantitative metabolomic imaging, alongside downstream analyses.

Candidates for this position will hold appointments in the Department of Botany and Plant Sciences. A Ph.D. degree and postdoctoral experience are required, along with a track record of notable scientific contributions demonstrated through high-quality peer-reviewed publications. The applicants are expected to establish independent research programs and demonstrate the potential to secure extramural funding. Moreover, candidates should exhibit cutting-edge expertise in developing or applying metabolomics tools such as LC-MS/MS, MS imaging, and NMR based metabolomics to address key biological questions.

Furthermore, the successful candidate is expected to teach courses related to biochemistry, metabolomics, and later contribute to the development of a course for a master's program in metabolomics.

The University of California, Riverside is ranked among the nation's Top 15 Public Research Universities according to Washington Monthly. The successful candidate will have access to the state-of-the-art facilities in cores operated by the Institute of Integrative Genome Biology (IIGB), which includes Metabolomics Core, as well as cores dedicated to bioinformatics, microscopy, proteomics, and sequencing. Faculty are encouraged to collaborate broadly with colleagues at UCR and elsewhere, and entrepreneurship is encouraged.

UC salary consists of a base pay of $86,500 to $112,800 for Assistant Professors and additional off-scale to be commensurate with market value, qualifications and experiences. The off-scale portion of the salary will be maintained as long as satisfactory academic progress is made. Additionally, the off-scale will be maintained subject to market adjustments to the UC salary scale.

Basic qualifications for this position that must be met by the date of application include: A successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. degree and postdoctoral experience preferred. Candidates must demonstrate notable scientific contributions, evidenced by high-quality, peer-reviewed publications. A successful candidate is expected to establish an independent research program and must therefore demonstrate the potential to secure extramural funding. The candidate's research interest must incorporate metabolomics analyses or provide a platform for the application or development of metabolomics techniques, including imaging, to biological signaling.

Additional qualifications for this position that must be met by the date of hire include Postdoctoral Training.
