Position Summary

SUNY Cortland’s History Department seeks applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in modern US history at the Assistant Professor rank beginning Fall 2026.

Major Responsibilities

• Teach introductory, methods, and upper division undergraduate and graduate courses in history specialties.
• Pursue a robust research and publication agenda in history.
• Engage in department, school, university, and professional service opportunities, including graduate and undergraduate advising.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships

This position reports to the academic department chair.

Required Qualifications

• PhD. in History by time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Research and teaching fields in 20th century U.S. history.
• Subfields are open, but the department invites applications from candidates with expertise in the history of social/political movements, the civil rights and labor movements, and/or the latter-20th century.
