Salary Information: Annual Minimum Salary-$177,400-Annual Maximum Salary-$301,600
Hiring Rate: $177,400-$239,500

Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) was founded as a 501(c) (3) non-profit medical institution in 2005 aimed at increasing access to health care in medically underserved areas of the Pacific Northwest.

The University currently offers the degrees of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Doctor of Dental Medicine, Master of Arts in Medical Science, and Master of Science in Occupational Therapy enrolling over 550 students annually with plans to develop other programs and/or colleges. Interprofessional education partnerships with other universities adds another 100 students to the population. The campus includes 300 employees with academic programming spread over a five-state region.

PNWU is located in Yakima, WA, a city of approximately 95,000 located in the south-central part of the state near the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains in a major agricultural and outdoor recreation region. General Summary:
The Associate Dean for Clinical Education (ADCE) is responsible for managing the personnel and administrative operations of the Office of Clinical Education and operations of the geographically dispersed COM clinical campus system. Additionally, the associate dean will assist in providing faculty development needs for the clinical rotation sites and clinical campus system. The Associate Dean supports the regional sites with various academic and administrative duties. The Associate Dean for Clinical Education in conjunction with the Assistant Deans for Clinical Education serve as leaders in the COM, representing the College at various functions with the University and the external community, and serving in leadership roles in COM committees and activities.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Administrative:
    Assist in the supervision of personnel for the office of clinical education and the regional sites
    To promote the interests and welfare of the Office (faculty, staff, and students)
    Approve preceptor payments once reports are provided by the E*Value Program Manager
    In conjunction with Assistant Deans for Clinical Education, identify, develop, and implement clinical training sites for third- and fourth-year rotations. Insure adequate faculty participation and development within the regional clinical sites system
    Supervise Assistant Deans in faculty development, recruitment and daily job duties and provide annual performance evaluation
    To work collaboratively with affiliated regional clinical/sites including hospitals and AHEC partners in the utilization of shared resources, faculty and administrative expertise
    Act as a point contact person for students, faculty and administration to the regional sites
    To assist in the development and maintenance of postgraduate career planning and advising program for medical students in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs and Office of Graduate Medical Education
    To provide agenda and oversight to the planning and execution of campus annual meeting between the office of clinical education and the regional clinical sites
    To advise and monitor the scheduling of student rotations
    To monitor and address academic or disciplinary problems arising with third and fourth-year medical students
    To oversee the evaluation system for the regional clinical sites system including student/faculty/site evaluation
  • Academic:
    To maintain academic standards and quality within educational programs
    To work collaboratively with the Associate Dean for Preclinical Education and Assistant Deans for Clinical Education for curricular integration across all four years of the medical school's educational program
    To oversee curricular content and incorporation of clinical competencies
    To ensure the integration of osteopathic curriculum into core and elective rotations
  • Faculty Development:
    To recommend adjunct clinical faculty for appointment and promotion
    To ensure faculty development needs are met within the clinical campus system
    To assure CME availability in COM clinical faculty development programs
    To promote clinical campus faculty participation in major student events (white coat, commencement, and hooding ceremonies)
  • Research and Scholarly Activity:
    To promote research and scholarly activity in clinical education as may become feasible
    To actively seek external funding for research and scholarly needs as may be feasible
    To pursue programs of research development and other scholarly activity for the Department and the COM as may become feasible
  • Service to the College and University Community:
    To serve as a faculty resource
    To serve on committees of the COM at the discretion of the Dean
    To serve on university committees at the discretion of the President
    To demonstrate concern for society by being active in community affairs
    To serve as consultant to the university and civic groups or individuals in areas of expertise
    To be active in regional and/or national professional organizations in your specialty or discipline
    Performs other related duties as assigned and based on departmental need

Experience:
Required: 4-6 years

Skill in effective communication (both written and oral); skill in independent decision making; skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature; skill in problem solving; skill in public speaking; knowledge of administrative procedures and practices; knowledge of advising and counseling practices; knowledge of project management principles, processes, and techniques; and ability to apply effective and accurate data entry and typing skills.
