BASIC FUNCTION
The Associate Dean of Nursing provides academic and administrative leadership for the
Department of Nursing, serving as the Chief Academic Nurse Administrator for accreditation and regulatory compliance. The role provides
day-to-day management and supervision of the academic programs within the Vermont State University Department of Nursing and oversees
program quality, assessment, fiscal and human resources, while collaborating with faculty and leadership to ensure high-quality,
evidence-based nursing education across all program sites.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES &
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the Chief Academic Nurse Administrator for the purposes of all nursing accreditation and
regulatory requirements. This includes but is not limited to submitting annual reports, mid-cycle reports, and other documentation as
required by the accreditation body or Vermont Board of Nursing. - Provide leadership and direction to the Department of Nursing in
creating and maintaining a culture of assessment, in alignment with established program evaluation plans, and other metrics associated with
accreditation and regulatory benchmarks. - Responsible for the management of requests and complaints from faculty and students in
the Department of Nursing that require administrative assistance or
intervention. - Collaborate with the School of Nursing and
Health Science Simulation Program Director, and the Clinical Educator Director for Nursing to ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical
education. - Oversee articulation agreements and transfer pathways for programs in the School of Nursing.
- Responsible for
the management of the nursing department budget to ensure fiscal resources are sufficient to maintain program quality. - Work
collaboratively with the Program Coordinators, the Department Chair, and the Directors, to ensure sufficient human resources for the nursing
programs to
maintain quality classroom and clinical instruction. - Monitor academic program efficiency through established
metrics, identified by the university and the department. - Act as the Dean's designee to conduct classroom and clinical education
observations for full-time faculty. - Collaborate with faculty to ensure that nursing curricula is current, relevant,
evidence-based, and aligned with institution and discipline specific best practice
standards. - Serve on faculty and staff search
committees. - Provide support for the day-to-day department operations at each site where programs are delivered.
- Serve at
campus-wide activities held to promote the recruitment and retention of students. This includes commencement exercises. - Participate as a member of various faculty and university committees.
- Keep abreast of current developments and trends in the field
of professional nursing and nursing education through professional development opportunities; serve on related committees and/or boards and
participate in state, regional and national affiliations in the best interest of the program. - Perform other administrative duties
as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
General supervision is received from the Dean of
Nursing and Health Sciences.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Administrative supervision of staff
is expected.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's of Science in Nursing, plus three
to five years of relevant teaching and administrative experience, or a combination of education and experience from
which comparable
knowledge and skills are acquired. - Thorough knowledge of education and administration practices and principles.
- Ability
to deal effectively with a wide range of individuals/groups inside and outside Vermont State Colleges System. - Ability to relate
academic or special program functions to overall university programs and goals. - Current unencumbered Registered Nurse license with
eligibility to practice in Vermont.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD, EdD, or
DNP degree. - Academic nurse educator certification (CNE®) or Academic clinical nurse educator certification (CNE®cl) is
preferred.

- Understanding of faculty hiring and review, promotion, and tenure processes, including best practices
for recruiting and retaining diverse faculty. - Understanding of student recruitment and retention practices.
- Understanding of academic policies, procedures, and supports for student success.

prioritization skills. - Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent supervisory
skills. - Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office 365 applications
including skills in Word, Excel, OneDrive, and Teams and experience with (or ability to learn) technologies. - Ability to collect,
track, analyze and report data. - Proven record of accountability and follow-through with the ability to meet deadlines.
Abilities:

a highly cooperative and collaborative work style. - Ability to work over a geographically dispersed region and travel
intermittently. - Ability to maintain confidential information.

confidentiality.
Location: Vermont State University campuses: Randolph, Williston,
Lyndon, Johnson, Castleton with travel to all campuses.
Compensation: The budgeted
compensation for this position is $100,000 - $112,000.
