Associate Dean, School of Nursing - Chicago State University
The Associate Dean ensures the delivery of high-quality nursing education through program administration, ensuring accreditation and regulatory compliance, faculty development, student support, and contributions to teaching, research, and service.
Position Overview
- Leadership and Administration: The Associate Dean of Nursing will provide leadership and administrative oversight for the program. Responsibilities include setting and implementing program goals, aligning initiatives with the strategic priorities of the College and University, overseeing academic scheduling and faculty workload, and managing budgets in collaboration with College and University officials.
- Accreditation: The Associate Dean is responsible for ensuring that the program meets or exceeds the standards by accrediting and licensing bodies. This includes maintaing regular communication with the agencies and preparing all necessary reports and documentation. They will also identify best practices and innovative approaches to align programs with evidence-based teaching and learning strategies that improve outcomes.
- Faculty Engagement and Governance: The Associate Dean will encourage faculty participation in governance at the School, College and University levels. They will provide guidance on tenure, promotion, and professional development, while also supporting student success through oversight of advising, mentoring, and career initiatives. Additionally, the Associate Dean will manage student grievances and appeals in collaboration with faculty and University officials.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Collaborate with faculty on developing, modifying, and implementing practical and innovative curriculum and teaching/learning methodologies
- Engage with the College and University in seeking, securing, managing, and evaluating external funding opportunities from grants, partnerships, and philanthropy
- Recruit, mentor, retain and evaluate faculty and staff
- Develop and implement strategies for student recruitment, admission, and retention
- Foster a culture of innovation and excellence in teaching, research, and service
- Represent the nursing program at university meetings, professional meetings and organizations, and community events
- Act as a liaison between the nursing school, college leadership, and external stakeholders, including healthcare organizations and alumni
- Role model excellence in clinical and classroom teaching through guest lecturing or other activities
Minimum Requirements
- Earned doctorate with a masters or doctoral degree in nursing
- Current Illinois nursing license or eligibility for licensure
- Minimum of five years of professional nursing practice experience
- Minimum of five years serving as a nurse educator in an academic setting
- Minimum of five years of leadership experience in an academic nursing setting
- Experience with accreditation and state regulatory processes in Nursing
- Tenured and, or the ability to achieve tenure
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in nursing education administration
- Demonstrated service to academe, profession, and community
- Proven history of scholarship, including publications and other scholarly work
- Record of successful grant applications
