To be considered for this position candidates must have a Ph.D. in History or a related field with tenure as well as demonstrated excellence in teaching/mentoring.
Description:
The Department of History at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for the Merrick Chair in Western American History. The department seeks an outstanding scholar in any field or time period related to North American Wests, migrations, borderlands, and Indigenous homelands. The successful candidate will be expected to make a substantial contribution to the department's graduate program in Western American history by actively mentoring graduate students and should be prepared to teach upper-division and graduate courses in Western history and the undergraduate US History Survey. The teaching load will be one course per semester while holding the endowed position. The appointment is expected to begin August 16, 2026.
