Brief Description of Duties

The University of the District of Columbia, College of Arts and Sciences, Division of Education, Health and Social Work invites applications for a MSW Program Associate/Full Professor for a new hybrid/hi-flex MSW program. The MSW Program Associate/Full Professor is a nine-month full-time tenure track faculty appointment in Social Work to support specific program initiatives. The preferred start is January 2, 2026 and no later than August 16, 2026.

The University of the District of Columbia is a public, Historically Black College and University (HBCU) comprehensive university with an urban land-grant distinction. It is the District of Columbia's only public institution of higher education. UDC has historically been a minority-serving institution. The University services approximately 3,000 students across its two-year baccalaureate, masters, and professional programs. The Washington metropolitan community provides an exceptional learning laboratory for faculty, staff, and students.

UDC offers a BSW Social Work Program established in 1976 and MSW Social Work Program is currently being established.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teach in graduate courses in the MSW program.
  2. Maintain an active scholarship agenda, including publishing articles, pursuing external funding and engaging in collaborative research that includes student participation.
  3. Engage in recruitment, retention and advisement of MSW students.
  4. Provide active service to the community, profession, Program and University.
  5. Contribute to curriculum development and outcomes-related responsibilities.
  6. Perform additional assigned tasks to enhance the quality of the program.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • A DSW or PhD in Social Work preferred or closely related field.
  • A Master's degree in Social Work from a Council on Social Work Education accredited institution.
  • A minimum of two years of post-master's practice experience in social work
  • Undergraduate and graduate social work teaching experience.
  • A demonstrated record of scholarly production, including practice-related research.
  • Demonstrated experience with the social work accreditation or reaffirmation process.
  • Experience in on-line curriculum design and development, including utilization of experiential teaching methods.
  • Licensed as a social work practitioner (or eligible to apply for licensure) in the District of Columbia.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to engage with diverse groups and show sensitivity to variations across age, gender, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, language, culture, national origin, and prior training and educational experience.
  • Ability to provide leadership through teaching, scholarship, curriculum development, administrative experience, and/or other academic and professional activities in social work.

A candidate for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor shall be required to meet the following qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate or the highest appropriate credential in the field of specialization, or experience and achievements comparable to the doctorate
  • A record of scholarship and professional growth
  • At least five (5) years of full-time teaching experience in an institution of higher education, including three (3) years as an Assistant Professor. (Community college experience preferred).Appropriate professional experience and achievements may be substituted when formal teaching experience is limited or absent.
