Associate Vice President of Student Affairs Office

Job Summary

Morgan State University has created the new position of Associate Vice President for Student Affairs in response to the growing demands of a dynamic higher education landscape. This strategic expansion of leadership reflects the university’s enrollment growth, the development and maturation of departments within Student Affairs, and the progress made in enhancing the student experience. These advancements now call for additional senior leadership to sustain momentum and guide future innovation in student-centered services. Previously structured with a Vice President and one Associate Vice President/Dean of Students overseeing ten departments, the Division now welcomes this additional senior role to further strengthen operational capacity, elevate the student experience, and build institutional effectiveness. This is an exciting time to be at Morgan State University, with opportunities for the new AVP to make significant contributions that shape the future of student affairs and foster transformative experiences for our students.

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Associate Vice President (AVP) serves as a senior leader within the Division of Student Affairs and a key contributor to the broader university leadership team. The AVP provides direct administrative oversight for a diverse portfolio of departments and services, including the Center for Career Development, Residence Life and Housing, the Student Center, Student Life and Development, and the University Memorial Chapel. In addition to these established areas, the AVP supports the development of expanding student life initiatives, such as civic and community engagement, club sports, multicultural affairs, and Esports.

As a strategic and operational leader, the AVP is responsible for advancing a student-centered and inclusive campus environment by fostering collaboration, aligning efforts with institutional priorities, and championing the integration of Morgan’s Co-Curricular Learning Framework to promote purposeful learning beyond the classroom. The AVP must also bring strong business acumen essential for the oversight of auxiliary operations and revenue-generating services. This role is instrumental in shaping a cohesive and forward-thinking student experience by fostering leadership development, supporting innovative student engagement strategies, and advancing career readiness initiatives. It also ensures the effectiveness and impact of auxiliary services and promotes operational excellence across assigned areas. The ideal candidate will bring significant leadership experience, business acumen, and a demonstrated commitment to holistic student development.
