Beamline scientist at the nano-analysis beamline ID16B

Beamline scientist at the nano-analysis beamline ID16B

The European Synchrotron, the ESRF, is an international research centre based in Grenoble, France.

Through its innovative engineering, pioneering scientific vision and a strong commitment from its 700 staff members, the ESRF is recognised as one of the top research facilities worldwide. Its particle accelerator produces intense X-ray beams that are used by thousands of scientists each year for experiments in diverse fields such as biology, medicine, environmental sciences, cultural heritage, materials science, and physics.

Supported by 19 countries, the ESRF is an equal opportunity employer and encourages diversity.

Beamline ID16B at the ESRF is a state-of-the-art instrument dedicated to hard X-ray nano-analysis. It combines several advanced techniques-X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), X-ray excited optical luminescence (XEOL and time-resolved XEOL), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and 3D/4D X-ray nano-imaging (nano-CT). Operating across a wide energy range (6 to 33 keV) with a beam size routinely reaching 50 nanometres, ID16B supports cutting-edge research in fields such as environmental science, biology, geoscience, and materials science.

Thanks to a variety of sample environments (furnaces, cryostats, electrochemical cells, etc.), the beamline offers unique in situ nano-analysis capabilities.

As a Beamline Scientist, you will be at the forefront of scientific and technical developments at ID16B. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing your own research programme, making the most of ID16B's unique capabilities in close collaboration with the beamline team and scientific partners
  • Acting as a local contact for visiting researchers and supporting experiments with high scientific and societal impact in areas such as biomedicine, materials science, energy technologies, and nanoscience.
  • Develop and implement methods and studies for nano-spectroscopy techniques including XEOL and TR_XEOL.
