Job Description Summary
The Business Manager provides financial planning, reconciliation, transaction, and reporting for the Department, ensuring efficient resource management and strategic alignment with institutional goals.
This position conducts effort reporting, cost analysis, and pricing development for SPO workgroups, developing and maintaining financial standards and practices consistent and compliant with department, institution, and industry requirements. This position tracks financial performance vs budget, providing salient variance analysis. The Business Manager reviews and prepares financial reports and presentations and uses data actualization to transform complex information into actionable insights for decision-making and compliance.
Under the guidance of the Associate Director, the Business Manager is responsible for proactive analysis, budget development, and ad hoc reporting for SPO Directors, Executives, and other stakeholders. With the Associate Director, the Business Manager provides fact-checking and oversight of financial transactions initiated by PO Managers. As a working Business Manager, this position performs expense review, procurement, cost recovery, and other day-to-day financial transactions. The position requires meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in matters of proofreading, communication, and transactions.
The Business Manager requires proficient comfort with technical tools, including financial systems, business intelligence, dashboards, and database management. This position is considered "essential" and may provide other services as urgency demands.
Job Description
Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or similar, and 3-5 years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
This position requires critical thinking and problem-solving skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships.
Computer skills must be proficient or greater, particularly with Excel, enterprise financial systems, Business Intelligence (BI) tools, and databases.
Excellent communications skills are required, including the ability to communicate and enforce policies and procedure with tact and diplomacy.
We strongly prefer experience with and knowledge of budget procedures and accounting systems, human resources/payroll policies/procedures, and University systems such as BEN Financials, Business Objects, Concur, Workday@Penn.
