Career Coach
Job Summary
U Career Success is seeking a Career Development Instructor & Career Coach to support first- and second-year undergraduate business students. This role blends classroom instruction with individualized career coaching to help students explore career paths, develop professional skills, and prepare for future internships and employment.
The instructor/coach is housed within U Career Success and partners closely with the Business School to deliver a career development course, provide targeted coaching, and design engaging early-career programming for business students.
The ideal candidate is passionate about student success, comfortable with change and innovation, collaborative and supportive, has a strong customer service orientation, a desire to succeed in placement metrics, and a high level of professionalism. This position will work with students in their first and second year primarily with Business School students. Knowledge and background in business or students exploring their future career path is preferred.
Coaches must solve complex problems that relate to coaching individual students who come from a wide variety of backgrounds. These individuals are making life-changing choices. Each coach must know employment laws and ethical standards for hiring and recruiting. Our office follows the standards of the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

Responsibilities
- Teach and facilitate a career development course for undergraduate business students
- Coach first- and second-year business students on career exploration, major alignment, and early career readiness
- Proactively manage a portfolio of students and track progress toward career readiness outcomes
- Design and deliver workshops, assignments, and learning activities focused on career and professional development
- Apply instructional design best practices to develop and update course content
- Use Canvas to manage course materials, assignments, and student engagement (preferred)
- Collaborate with Business School faculty, employers, and campus partners to connect students with opportunities
- Coordinate activities between students, employers, and University departments
- Ensure coaching and instruction align with employment laws, ethical standards, and NACE best practices

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department's area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Master's degree in a related area may be preferred.

Preferences
- Masters degree
- 3+ years of professional experience in career coaching, teaching, student success, or a related field
- Experience working with undergraduate students, particularly first- or second-year populations
- Strong classroom facilitation and student coaching skills
- Experience with instructional design and course development
- Comfort using Canvas or other learning management systems
- Strong customer service orientation, professionalism, and ability to support students from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to navigate complex, high-impact student decision-making with care and sound judgment
- Ability to resolve complex issues individually and through teamwork
- Curious and flexible with an excellent work ethic
- Knowledge and exposure to CRMs like Salesforce, comfortable with technology and quick to learn new tools.
