  • Location: Kensington campus in Sydney, NSW (Hybrid Flexible Working) minimum 2 days in the office

About UNSW:

UNSW isn’t like other places you’ve worked. We’re a large organisation with a diverse and talented community; a community doing extraordinary things. Together, we are driven to be thoughtful, practical, and purposeful in all we do. Taking this combined approach is what makes our work matter. It’s the reason we’re one of the top 50 universities in the world and a member of Australia’s prestigious Group of Eight. If you want a career where you can thrive, be challenged and do meaningful work, you’re in the right place.

About the Role:

UNSW is ranked among the world’s top 20 universities and is globally recognised for its research excellence and impact. Internally, the Division of Research & Enterprise (DVCRE) leads the strategic direction and performance of research and innovation with the Research Solutions team in IT supporting their technical needs.

There are multiple significant change initiatives underway across the university, and this role plays a key part in helping it succeed. Working closely with the Domain Change Lead, you’ll help shape and deliver end-to-end change activities that help people navigate, adopt and thrive through change. You’ll be working on a major strategic program that spans systems, processes and ways of working, the kind of change that’s complex, fast-moving and meaningful. You don’t need to be an expert in the domain or system; curiosity, adaptability and strong change craft matter far more.

The role reports directly to the Change Lead, Research Solutions, IT. The role has no direct reports.

As Change Manager, you will:

  • Lead change impact and readiness assessments, using insights to shape tailored, practical change approaches aligned to the broader UNSW change landscape.
  • Partner with sponsors, leaders and stakeholders to co‑design change plans that build trust, ownership and alignment.
  • Design and facilitate workshops that surface insights and translate them into clear, actionable outputs.
  • Develop and deliver integrated change management plans aligned to project milestones, including communications, engagement, training and capability uplift activities.
  • Identify change risks, barriers and dependencies, and implement proactive interventions to support adoption.
  • Develop clear, contextual and sustainable change materials, maintaining change artefacts and collaboration spaces (e.g. SharePoint).
  • Monitor and report on change readiness and adoption, adjusting interventions as required.
  • Support a clean transition to BAU, including mechanisms for ongoing reinforcement and feedback.
  • Work closely with technical and business project teams to embed change activities into delivery plans.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other change resources working with shared stakeholder groups.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships across diverse stakeholders, and navigate challenging conversations with confidence.
  • Balance pace with quality, working autonomously while remaining aligned to program direction and priorities.

About you:

  • Experience developing practical change artefacts such as change impact assessments, readiness assessments and training plans, and translating analysis into actionable plans.
  • Experience delivering change management within large and complex organisations (within other universities desirable).
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and consultation skills, including with senior leaders, and the ability to build trust, influence and mediate effectively.
  • Ability to quickly access and understand unique and complex stakeholder groups, and work in collaboration to find solutions.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience developing concise, well-structured and visually effective change communication materials to support engagement and adoption.
  • Proven workshop design and facilitation skills (experience in human centred design a plus).
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cohesively in federated teams.
  • Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience delivering change management on mid to large projects or programs, including operating with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Knowledge of change management methodologies, tools and governance, and current trends.
  • Tertiary qualification in change management, behavioural psychology, communications, business management, etc. or equivalent experience.

Benefits and Culture

  • Flexible Working Options (work from home, flexible hours etc)
  • Career development opportunities
  • 17% Superannuation contributions and additional leave loading payments
  • Additional 3 days of leave over Christmas period
  • Discounts and entitlements (retail, education, fitness)
