"Commercial HVAC Building Engineer - 2 Positions Available"

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Facilities Management and the immediate supervision of the Supervising Building Service Engineer, maintains, services, repairs, and inspects heating, ventilating, mechanical, and air conditioning systems, and the mechanical, plumbing, electrical and electronic systems associated with the decentralized utilities centers located throughout the campus and the Central Plant facility.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for operating, maintaining, repairing and inspecting heating, air conditioning, water treatment and ventilating equipment (i.e. boilers, chillers, condensers, compressors, circulating water pumps, blower vans, valves, ducting, gauge).
• Tests and adjusts, as required, chemically treats boiler hot water, chilled water, condenser and cooling tower water and other systems as needed.
• Maintains and inspect, diagnoses and makes emergency repairs to steam, natural gas, water, air and oil distribution systems.
• Will be called upon to periodically adjust air handling equipment to achieve air flow, temperature and humidity balances for individual rooms, building area or buildings.
• Repairs and replaces bearing, shafts, seals, rings, and electrical wiring and installs mechanical system parts, gauges, valves, and pipes which require the application of skills and knowledge equivalent to the journey level in one or more of the basic trades worked.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate possesses a strong working knowledge of HVAC systems for both central and decentralized building plants, as well as expertise in building temperature control systems including electric, electronic, and pneumatic controls. They are well-versed in current facilities maintenance procedures, encompassing plumbing systems, electric motor control operations, and water treatment systems. Demonstrating excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills, they interact professionally and civilly with the university community, co-workers, and supervisors, maintaining a safe and respectful environment. A professional image and demeanor are essential, and experience in a university or institutional setting is highly valued. Trade-related higher education and CFC certification are desirable qualifications that further enhance their suitability for the role.

Education and Experience

• Equivalent to a high school diploma and two years of journey-level experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of boiler, heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment and systems required.
• Four years of experience is preferred.

Physical Summary

Heavy work - Job involves lifting more than 40 pounds. Approximately half of the incumbent's time will be spent walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, or climbing.

Licenses / Certificates

• BOC Level I & II Certification is preferred.
• A valid California driver's license is required.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,998 - $8,737 per month.
