Responsibilities
Provides compensation and classification counseling and recommendations to department representatives within University divisions in all activities, programs, and processes for assigned campus-wide colleges and departments.
- Provide guidance to departments in understanding all aspects of the University Classification and Compensation system. Assist departments in developing staff job descriptions to accurately describe job content and ensure compliance with applicable laws. Evaluate new and existing positions by investigation and analyzing position duties and responsibilities to determine appropriate classification and salary levels. Assist departments with restructures through position reviews, desk audits, and work analyses. Make recommendations based on findings in alignment with department's business needs.
- Provide consultation services and support to departments in making fiscally responsible and compliant pay decisions. Review all staff compensation requests for assigned University departments. Evaluate relevant internal/external market data for competitiveness and provide recommendations based on findings. Participate, collect, and analyze market salary survey data to establish and maintain competitive pay ranges that align with FSU's mission and objectives. Assist in identifying and addressing any significant variations in pay within and among departments.
- Continuously evaluate and provide recommendations for modifications to position management and compensation systems to ensure they are meeting the needs and objectives of the University community. Provides assistance with the integration of compensation/classification processes with employment processes. Responsible for assisting with special projects within the Compensation/Classification section. Performs other related duties as required to assist in the * accomplishment of responsibilities and functions within the HR department.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in human resources, or a high school diploma or equivalency and six years of professional human resources experience. (Note: higher education may substitute for experience at an equivalent rate)
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of Classification or Compensation experience.

What is a typical day in this position?
Analyzes and determines hiring salaries and salary changes for current staff through external market benchmarking and internal compensation analyses. Collaborates with departments on proposals involving compensation and classification to determine the appropriate staff position classifications, changes to base salary, temporary additional and one-time pays, and pay additives through evaluation of the various pay types available to University departments in accordance with guidelines outlined in Compensation Services pay practices.

Anticipated Salary Range
Anticipated starting salary of $53,500, commensurate with education and experience.
