Job Posting: Student-Teaching Supervisor, History/Social Studies – Spring 2026+
The History Department at Central Connecticut State University seeks to establish and sustain a pool of qualified applicants for future, part-time appointments as adjunct instructors in the role of university supervisor. University supervisors observe and evaluate Secondary (7-12) History/Social Studies 026 certification candidates in their student teaching placements during the spring semesters.
Required Qualifications:
- Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) 026 endorsement for 7-12 teaching in history/social studies (or equivalent certification from another state).
- Master’s degree or above.
- Experience teaching history/social studies in high school or middle school.
- Evidence of successful work with middle school and/or high school students.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Seven years or more as a teacher in 7-12 grade history/social studies in public schools.
- Evidence of quality teaching preparation and teaching experience in public schools.
- Graduate degree in history or social studies related field.
- Status as a recently retired or part-time teacher with availability to work during school hours.
Responsibilities:
- Mentor and observe 1-4 student teachers in various CT public-school placements during M-F regular school hours plus meetings as necessary.
- Driving to CCSU and to middle and high schools for meetings and events, including orientations, team trainings, and student-teaching oversight.
- Coordinate and attend approximately 9-10 meetings and observations that include mandated three-way meetings between the host teacher, candidate and supervisor.
- Thorough completion of online digital evaluation forms for each candidate through the university software system.
- Time management and flexibility to mentor a student teacher in a 7-12 public school placement and to communicate with the History/Social Studies Coordinator and host teacher(s) about progress, successes, and concerns.
- Guidance with lessons that become part of the formal three-way meetings and online digital evaluations for each candidate.
- Passing the CPAST training module for the School of Education each year.

Salary according to CSU-AAUP contract, article 10.2.1 Student Teacher Supervision Credit. Mileage to school placements for meetings and observations reimbursed.
