The Role
Waranara Library at Macquarie University is seeking an exceptional leader to join the organisation as Director, Academic Library Services. This senior role provides strategic and operational leadership of the University Library, with responsibility for shaping and delivering contemporary, user-centred library services that support the University’s education and research ambitions.
Reporting to the University Librarian, you will be a key member of the Library’s leadership team, contributing to effective, values-driven leadership across the organisation. You will lead, develop and mentor a large team of professional staff, fostering a high-performing, client-focused and collaborative culture aligned with University and Library values. Working closely with senior University stakeholders and external partners, you will drive innovation, implement forward-looking strategies, and position the Library for continued impact in a dynamic higher education environment.
You will contribute to business and financial planning to deliver sustainable, client-focused services aligned with the Library’s strategic direction and service model. Your leadership will be critical in delivering integrated, discipline-aligned learning, teaching and research support, and outstanding client experiences across digital and physical environments, informed by evidence and client insight to drive decision-making, measure impact, and ensure service excellence.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) is the Chief Academic Officer of the University and is the member of the University Executive with overall responsibility for the planning, quality and delivery of education provided to Macquarie's undergraduate and graduate students. Waranara Library provides high quality, client centred services, information resources and learning spaces that support world-class research and transformational education. The library contributes to the development of graduate capabilities, research capacity, teaching excellence, student experience and community engagement in partnership with academics and other University service providers.

- A relevant tertiary qualification and extensive experience in leadership and strategic planning of academic and research library services, or equivalent extensive experience and qualifications/training
- A proven track record delivering impactful library services, particularly in: information, digital and AI literacy; customer service; student experience, and learning spaces
- Sound knowledge of emerging trends in libraries, technology and higher education sector with a proven ability to initiate and implement responsive process, services and programs
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities including the ability to lead, motivate and develop effective and high performing teams
- Highly developed interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience in negotiations, relationship building, managing vendor and professional relationships
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills and demonstrated excellence in business writing.
