Why Your Role Matters:
The Director of Financial Planning, Strategy and Analysis will lead and manage the financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis functions of UNSW. This role is crucial for providing financial insights that support strategic decision-making and drive financial performance. The role ensures the provision of robust and effective budget and management reporting processes that support and inform decision makers of current performance whilst not losing sight of horizon for new opportunities and challenges.
The role enables the effective allocation of resources towards the operational management of the University and in the financial planning and implementation of the UNSW Strategy ‘Progress for All’.
The Director of Financial Planning & Analysis reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and has four direct reports.
Responsibilities Include:
- Provide strategic financial leadership and advice to the Chief Financial Officer and senior executives, supporting informed operational and strategic decision making.
- Develop and deliver multiyear financial plans, annual budgets and rolling forecasts aligned to UNSW’s strategic objectives and financial sustainability.
- Lead the Financial Planning & Analysis function, ensuring high quality management reporting, budgeting and forecasting services that meet stakeholder needs.
- Partner with senior leaders across the University to provide authoritative financial insight, negotiate and manage service level agreements, and deliver strong business partnership outcomes.
- Oversee financial modelling, scenario analysis and revenue forecasting, including the effective management of teaching revenue and specialist financial processes.
- Drive continuous improvement across financial reporting, budgeting and business processes, fostering a high performance culture within the team.
- Lead, develop and inspire management reporting and budget teams, ensuring workforce strategy implementation and compliance with health and safety requirements.

Skills and Experience Summary:
- Tertiary qualification and CA or CPA Qualification with substantial successful experience managing multi-faceted management accounting functions in a large and complex organisation
- Significant successful experience in the planning, budgeting and forecasting cycle and associated management reporting
- Proven skills in developing internal business partnership services which deliver high quality financial support and advisory services to business units
- Proven relationship skills with expertise and significant experience in influencing and advising on sensitive and complex business issues
- Extensive team management experience to manage multi team performance and develop staff capabilities
- Knowledge and understanding of the higher education sector
