"Director of Financial Aid"

Job Function

Provides administrative direction and leadership to the Financial Aid Office of the College.

Directs the activities of the Financial Aid Office in the operation of comprehensive, multi-campus student-centered financial aid services; administers all federal, state, institutional and private financial aid grant, scholarship, work-study and loan programs; ensures compliance with all federal and state laws, regulations, statutes, codes, policies, procedures, and rules including the Colleges policies and procedures as they relate to financial aid; provides leadership and vision regarding financial aid strategies related to institutional student recruitment and retention goals and works collaboratively with other departments to achieve those goals.

Job Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of the financial aid department
• Plans the goals, objectives and resources of the financial aid operation
• Possesses current and thorough knowledge of federal and state financial aid legislation and regulations
• Evaluates and implements new technology and systems for the effective and efficient delivery and monitoring of financial aid
• Responsible for timely and accurate submission of FISAP and other required reports
• Coordinates and collaborates with other departments and areas of the College to promote compliance with all aspects of financial aid programs
• Collaborates with other departments and areas of the College to promote the institutional goals for student recruitment and retention. Serves as the financial aid representative on the Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) Committee
• Directs an effective information and outreach program, including participation in financial aid nights at local county high schools and other community organizations
• Collaborates with the Foundation Office to administer private donor scholarships and to maximize the expenditure of those dollars
• Participates in the internal and external audits of financial aid
• Serves as department/divisional representative at professional conferences and other meetings related to financial aid
• Directs and supervises assigned staff; responsible for planning, hiring, training, development, and supervision of staff
• Serve as liaison with federal and state governments on financial aid initiatives and regulatory proposals
• Responsible for development of the financial aid budget, monitoring and control
• Works with information technology staff on the planning and implementation of new systems/upgrades to existing systems affecting financial aid (e.g. Colleague, document imaging, etc.). Serves as financial aid representative on the Integrated Information Systems (IIS) Core Team
• Administers collective bargaining agreements
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelors degree in Business Administration, or a related area; masters degree preferred

Qualifications

Seven years of demonstrated professional experience in the operation of a financial aid office at a college/university including three years at the operational/supervisory management level; expected to possess knowledge of sound business practices and systems; ability to plan and develop systems using current technology; committed to student success; demonstrated hands-on experience working directly with students; demonstrates an energetic and positive attitude.
