Director of Operations - Center for International Studies and the Liberal Arts
Oversee and direct CISLA operations in consultation with the faculty director, including the selection of the incoming student cohort each year, the international internship program, the co-curriculum, off-campus trips such as the annual trip to the United Nations, and all aspects of the Center’s daily operations.
Supervise CISLA office staff (including the international programs coordinator and the administrative assistant), including hiring, training, assigning and overseeing work, approving timesheets, and reviewing performance.
Team advise CISLA scholars in consultation with the faculty director: hold advising meetings during pre-registration advising, regular office hours for students and provide advising for prospective CISLA scholars during the application process.
Support the faculty director and associate faculty director to enhance the CISLA curriculum by leading workshops on topics such as building intercultural competencies, career integration, internship searches, and ethical engagement; track student progress through e-Portfolios and Moodle.
Manage the CISLA operating budget in consultation with the CISLA faculty director.
Oversee the CISLA international internship program; work with the international programs coordinator to ensure all CISLA juniors secure international internships.
Manage the CISLA student travel / research grant in collaboration with the faculty director (send out call for proposals; assess proposal submissions and reward grants).
Work with other offices involved in internationalization and the integration of co-curricular experiences into the academic program to ensure that the CISLA program adheres to campus-wide policies and to coordinate the advancement of global education efforts on campus across various offices.
Support campus-wide global programming in collaboration with the Walter Commons; oversee the co-sponsorship of events and speakers in consultation with the faculty director.
Work with the faculty director to identify and recruit faculty for the CISLA selection committee, steering committee, and associate faculty director position.
Participate in committee work: serve on the Global/Local Engagement Council to further initiatives around curricular integration of global/local engagement experiences, ethical community engagement, enhanced student advising, and equity in student funding, and to strengthen collaborations among staff involved with off-campus engagement
Meet regularly with Centers staff (Holleran, GNCE, Ammerman, CCSRE) to collaborate on best practices in delivery of the Certificate programs and daily operations
Manage CISLA alumni relations and donor relations in consultation with the office of College Advancement, maintaining contact with over 800 CISLA alumni to support the career education of / provide networking opportunities for current students and highlight alumni successes.
Recruit and select the incoming CISLA class: oversee CISLA recruitment efforts (run information sessions, represent CISLA at academic fairs, conduct targeted outreach to affinity groups, collaborate with other centers and the assistant dean for Connections on recruiting events); serve on the CISLA selection committee (read and evaluate all applications, interview all candidates, and participate in selection meeting).
Oversee CISLA graduation ceremony; work with CISLA staff to coordinate program and event details.
Oversee and collaborate on office publications: annual newsletter, website, annual report.
Participate in professional networks of international educators to represent CISLA / Connecticut College and remain up to date with best practices in international education.
Represent CISLA in the development and planning of collaborative college programming that supports Center activities (e.g., recruitment, Camel Days, All-College Symposium).
