Job Summary

The English Language Institute at Georgia Gwinnett College is seeking qualified candidates for the English Language Institute (ELI) Instructor (full-time staff) position. This position will report to the ELI Director, and will be responsible for preparation and delivery of lesson plans and routine ELI classroom instruction. The ELI instructor will work with various groups of people, communicate effectively, work under minimal supervision and under deadline pressures.

The candidate must be a team player who is knowledgeable about English as a Second Language (ESL) teaching approaches and must be flexible to perform other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Provides instruction for ELI courses (up to 20 hours per week), with associated grading and planning
  • Develops ELI curriculum in designated areas
  • Serves as a resource for other ELI instructors, assisting with questions and needs
  • Provides academic advisement and related support for ELI students
  • Advises the ELI Director of ELI student and classroom needs
  • Ensure safety and policy requirements are met in the instructional areas
  • Help to promote the ELI program in the community
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Graduate Degree/Master's degree in a relevant field

One year of directly related prior ESL teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in ESL, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, Second Language Acquisition, or a related discipline

Three or more years directly related prior ESL teaching experience

TESL/ESL/TESOL teaching certification

Teaching experience in higher education settings

Proficiency in a language other than English

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES

  • Ability to work well with a wide range of students and staff colleagues
  • Demonstrated excellent written and spoken English proficiency

SKILLS

  • Skill in using Learning management system, such as D2L or similar platform
  • Analytical judgment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a positive attitude
