Position Summary

The Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards serves as the UNO official responsible for receiving, investigating, and adjudicating all reports of alleged student behavior that may be in violation of the University of Nebraska Student Code of Conduct. This individual will develop a strategic plan for addressing student conduct (in collaboration with the Dean of Students Office), investigating reported Code of Conduct violations, and ensuring that all information is handled according to required policies, followed up on in a timely manner, and due process is maintained. This individual will work daily with students, faculty, and staff to ensure that students are supported both in and out of the classroom.

The Director will be expected to implement a student development approach to all aspects of the position and will be guided by core values of respect, education, and service. The Director will be required to stay up-to-date on trainings and certifications related to student conduct, student privacy, impartiality, and best practices.

This position will receive and review reports of alleged student conduct, make assignments to other conduct officers, investigate reports, assist with relevant trainings throughout the campus community, plan and conduct student conduct hearings, manage conduct cases, document cases, conduct student record background checks, participate in the UNO Care Team, and have regular check-ins with University stakeholders. The Director will be detail oriented and make timely documentation updates regarding cases in Maxient in a thorough manner.

Job Duties

Responsibility Area: Conduct Adjudication (60%)

The Director serves as a university conduct hearing officer and adjudicates cases where students have violated the Student Code of Conduct or Housing & Residence Life policies. In addition, the Director is responsible for all residential conduct case assignments to conduct officers, and inputting information into Maxient. The Director serves as one of the primary power-users of Maxient and is asked to develop and maintain materials for the training of UNO staff and faculty. The Director will serve as a hearing facilitator for conduct and Title IX cases as requested.

Responsibility Area: Conduct Assessment and Trend Analysis (15%)

The Director will create annual conduct assessment plans and reports, sharing annual numbers for assigned areas, and creating materials related to Student Conduct and Community Standards. The Director will coordinate website updates for assigned areas.

Responsibility Area: Training and Resources (15%)

The Director will serve as a training resource on topics related to student conduct. Trainings may include, but are not limited to, International student orientation on academic integrity, Greek Life related to campus hazing, Housing and residence Life related to Maxient and the conduct process, and UNO Athletics related to student athletics. This individual will be required to provide conduct background checks as needed on behalf of the Division of Student Life and Wellbeing. Additionally, this includes maintaining resources of the Office on the UNO Website related to Student Conduct, policy, and required compliance topics related to student conduct.

Responsibility Area: Other Duties as Assigned (10%)

Special Projects related to Student Conduct as assigned by the Dean and Associate Dean of Students.

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Required Education

Earned Master’s degree

Required Experience

Previous experience in Student Life/Affairs and Student Conduct

Preferred Education

Master’s in Higher Education or related field

Preferred Experience

3-5 years in Student Conduct; Experience with Maxient; Familiarity with TIX, FERPA, Student Conduct Best Practices
