About This Opportunity

Are you ready to make a real impact in veterinary emergency care while shaping the next generation of clinicians?

As an Emergency Veterinary Clinician at UQ VETS Small Animal Hospital, you’ll deliver high-quality, relationship-centred care to small animal patients in a dynamic teaching environment. Based at our Gatton campus, you’ll lead afterhours and weekend clinical services, manage complex cases, and mentor junior staff and students. This role blends clinical excellence with teaching and leadership, offering a unique opportunity to influence both patient outcomes and veterinary education.

Key responsibilities will include:

Independently manage complex and urgent small animal cases.

Lead afterhours shifts and supervise nursing and technical teams.

Mentor interns and junior clinicians in clinical decision-making.

Actively contribute to clinical teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Foster continuous improvement within the hospital environment.

As a 24-hour operation, your take-home salary will be dependent on your specific roster, including loadings of 50% for weekend shifts, 25% for night shifts, and 15% for afternoon shifts. About You

Join our team if you have extensive experience in emergency and critical care, or if you're at any stage of your career journey. We welcome general practitioners aiming to enhance their skills, as well as recent graduates eager to continue their learning in a supportive environment.

You will demonstrate a commitment to providing high-quality, relationship-centred care to small animal patients and clients with a passion for veterinary education.

You should hold a BVSc (or equivalent) that is registrable in Queensland.

Special Veterinary Registration

Eligible candidates with the right to practice veterinary science outside Australia may obtain special registration as a veterinary surgeon or specialist for research or teaching roles at the University of Queensland, provided they have the relevant qualifications and experience (under the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1936, Section 19E).

The successful candidate may be required to complete background checks including, criminal history and education checks.

It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.
