Executive Director, Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources
The Executive Director of the Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources (NIER) will lead the next phase of the Institute’s strategic growth with a focus on NIER’s research themes: Powering the Future, Next Generation Resources, and Environmental Sustainability & Security.
You will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Institute, representing NIER and the University at executive and professional levels internally and externally. The Executive Director actively contributes to the development and delivery of institutional and divisional plans aligned with the University’s Strategic Plan, while managing the complex governance, commercial and precinct operations of the Institute.
Job Details
- Lead a research Institute at the forefront of clean energy and sustainable resource development and delivering practical, industrially relevant solutions for the Hunter region and beyond.
- NIER has a proud history of achievement over the last 15 years and has grown to encompass 20 research centres and groups, and a range of co-located industry partners.
- Perform a strategic role in shaping the next phase of the Institute’s development.
About you
We are seeking:
- Proven leadership capabilities, including the ability to lead high-performing teams, manage budget and financial operations to drive sustainable outcomes.
- Proven ability to build and maintain productive relationships with industry, community, and academic partners, supported by comprehensive experience working with industry and established networks.
- Expertise in strategy development and strong track record of delivering results aligned with vision and objectives.
- Demonstrated capacity to identify strategic opportunities aligned with emerging trends, partner priorities, and market needs.
- Proven ability to develop and manage effective liaison with internal and external stakeholders.
Term and remuneration
The term of the appointment is a 5-year fixed term (Renewable). The successful candidate will be offered a competitive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
