Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Faculty Support Specialist in the Department of Faculty Affairs at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) plays a vital role in enhancing the academic and professional effectiveness of faculty members. Operating under the University Program Specialist classification, this position provides comprehensive program coordination, operational support, and resource facilitation to faculty across academic units. The role ensures faculty have the tools, guidance, and administrative assistance necessary to support WSSU's mission of academic excellence, student success, and community impact.
The incumbent will support faculty recruitment, evaluation, and appointment processes for adjunct and full-time faculty within the University. Ensure efficient processing of faculty appointments, adjunct appointments, and related adjunct and fixed-term appointments. The incumbent will manage process flow for hiring, reappointments, tenure and promotion and will be responsible for gathering and reviewing information for appointments and visa applications for visiting scholars and foreign national faculty. Also, serves as the primary contact for new faculty, ensuring necessary logistical resources are settled upon arrival on campus.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Public Administration, or related discipline.
- Three (3) or more years of experience supporting faculty affairs or academic administration within the UNC System or a comparable higher education setting.
- Experience with faculty appointment, tenure, and promotion processes.
- Familiarity with UNC System policies and regulations governing faculty employment.
- Experience using enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems (e.g., Banner, PeopleAdmin) and electronic document management systems.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
