Job Details

Structure: Fellows will begin with the academic sector at Butler University for 6 months and then move into their industry setting at Eli Lilly and Company for 18 months. Currently, the FDA had to suspend recruitment for the 2026-2028 fellowship cycle. It is our hope that the FDA experience will continue, but at this time, we cannot guarantee it. However, we are confident that this fellowship will continue to provide high-quality safety and regulatory experiences.

Objectives:

  • Examine career options within academic, pharmaceutical industry, medical, and regulatory environments.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the key elements of an academic environment and faculty roles within it.
  • Explore various medical and regulatory components of pharmaceutical development and innovation.
  • Develop an understanding of regulations and patient safety considerations regarding medication use.
  • Construct expertise in patient and medication safety, focusing on tools and methods to make healthcare safer.
  • Demonstrate personal, interpersonal, and teamwork skills critical for effective leadership.
  • Focus on regulatory approaches in addressing risk management and medication error related issues associated with currently marketed drug and biologic products.
  • Contribute to advancing the science of risk management and medication error prevention and analysis.
  • Develop an understanding of pharmaceutical risk management tools available to assess and mitigate the risks of drug and biologic products.
  • Enhance scientific writing skills.
  • Engage at scientific conferences to network with other professionals in industry.

Eligibility: Fellows must have graduated from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy, or otherwise eligible for licensure as a pharmacist, prior to the start of the fellowship term. All applicants must be U.S. citizens due to the potential for rotating with the FDA. Candidates who do not meet this requirement should not apply.

Application Materials: Interested applicants must submit the following: Letter of intent addressed to Veronica Vernon, PharmD, BCPS, BCACP, MSCP, FAphA, Associate Professor and Chair of Pharmacy Practice, Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Indianapolis, IN, USA.
