Job Description
Coppin State University, a fully accredited institution and a member of the University System of Maryland, is accepting applications to fill a full-time non-tenure track lecturer position in Biology in the department of Natural Sciences within the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE.) Coppin is an urban residential Historically Black College and University (HBCU) serving nearly 3,000 students enrolled in day, evening, weekend, and online courses. The position requires a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, mentoring, and fostering an inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities:
- Teaching 12 credits per semester of lower-level biology courses and provide academic advisement and support to students enrolled in undergraduate courses
- Attend department, college, and university meetings and activities
- Participate in different committees to help move the department in a positive direction
- Engage in recruitment activities
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in biology is required.
- Some teaching experience at the high school, college, or university level
- Outstanding communication skills in writing, speaking, and listening.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge and skills in curriculum development.
- Knowledge of assessment processes.
- Evidence of successful collaboration, interdisciplinary work, and ability to handle sensitive situations and information with discretion
- Ability to work effectively with internal and external constituents.
- Work with students one-on-one to give additional help.
- Motivate and engage students in class.
- Has experience with diverse and non-traditional student bodies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate degree in biology preferred.
