Gallery Assistant
One regular, part-time position, approximately 18 hours per week, 10 months per year, located on the Oceanside Campus. The typical schedule is 2:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, and 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Wednesday through Friday; occasional weekend hours may be required. While the schedule listed reflects 19 hours in some weeks, this position follows an irregular work schedule, with hours arranged in advance in consultation with the employee and informed by their availability. Actual hours may vary based on departmental needs, and some weeks may require more or fewer hours. Additional hours are often available through grant funding. The individual selected for this position may be assigned to any district facility during any hours of operation.
The first-level interviews with the screening and interview committee will be conducted via Zoom. The second-level interviews may be in-person or via Zoom.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:
MiraCosta College Board Policy 7800: Employee Residency requires all classified staff, administrators, and temporary/hourly short-term employees to maintain and permanently reside in a principal place of residence in the state of California that is within two hundred (200) road miles from the employee’s regularly assigned district worksite. The purpose of the policy is to promote efficiency and continuity throughout all campus administrative functions, provide students with high-quality assistance and accessibility to all academic and campus services, ensure that students receive an engaging education, and respond to emerging student needs.
The District may consider an individual request to temporarily reside outside the State of California or beyond the 200-mile limit on a case-by-case basis, not to exceed twelve consecutive months.
Under general supervision, assist with the promotion, preparation, installation, lighting and deinstalling of all exhibitions at the MiraCosta College Art Gallery; provide educational opportunities to students and the public; open and close the gallery and maintain security of exhibits; and perform related duties as assigned (these will include archiving images/video and maintenance of the gallery website). This position serves as a public face of the gallery and provides education-oriented visitor service involving informed communication about each exhibit, with consideration of art history and art practices.
Starting at $31.16 per hour (range 17, step 1), with annual salary step increases up to step 5.
